You don't need to be an 'investor' to invest in Singletrack: 6 days left: 95% of target - Find out more
I’ve been gifted a SC Chameleon frame in 26” size - bare frame only - and I’m wondering what to do with it. I’d like to build it up into some nice playful hard tail but I don’t have many parts to play with.
Anyone any ideas or examples? Or free bits to help me out? (very limited funds here!).
Single speed?
Dirt Jumper?
Trail bike?
It will do what ever you want it’s a Chameleon 🙂
Look on Amazon for parts if you are on a tight budget.
I like the cheap 1X narrow wide chain rings. Pair them with a solid but good value set of hollowtech shimano cranks from ebay and you have a great cheap crank setup.
Hollow tech bottom brackets are about £12 from Hong Kong on ebay.
Someone on retrobike will have some wheels.
Surely the cheapest option is SS, single brake, rigid forked jump bike?
What vintage is it?
I went through this recently when I impulsively purchased a mk2 Cotic Soul. Checked the price of gathering a load of 26" wheels and forks etc and went off the idea.
It's now been resold.
No idea on vintage I’m afraid.
I do have some rigid forks, probably got stem/bars etc and some raceface cranks.
Wheels will be the issue I think.
I had a Ragley Blue pig frame hanging around. It's now a single speed, shop/BMX track bike. But recently I stuck some 29er wheels in it with 38mm CX comp tyres and it rides great.
Play with the Santa Cruz and see what you come up with!
You can find out on the website, they have an archive of all models.

I have a 5, currently set up as a singlespeed and I'm thinking I'm either gonna fit a reach extension or angle headset. Probably the latter with a longer stem if needed. I have the bits to run a derailleur as well so can do whatever. I do need to get out on it though as I've not gelled with it yet. I have enjoyed what I've ridden on it though.
