You can watch the offending incident on STW's Instagram - Sam Pilgrim is clearly making a joke and laughter abounds on both sides...

They took the video down because if you saw the context of the comment in the video you'd think the author of the article was disingenuous.

Fact is Pilgrim or his sponsors couldn't care less about STW or it's readers, most of whom seem content to keep their wheels firmly on the ground and be told what to ride by people who can't actually ride that well.

I'm off to Pinkbike this place aint for me.....

Casual sexism is not a good thing, but then that article is pretty awful too.

I actually talked about this thread with Mrs stu tonight while we were out and she found it laughable that people could call him out as sexist.
As I said earlier he was really encouraging and helpful to Amanda on the rides we've had with him.
From my perspective I only saw him helping her and he mainly talked to me when we were ahead about trying to encourage his daughter into the riding scene.

I didn’t watch the video, but did read the article. I thought it was odd. I’m sure I understand the point, but I read to me like grudge being aired. If someone accused me of being a druggie, I think I’d be in a position to speak my mind too.

Anyway, what always amuses me about the sexist thing is that my wife works in a male dominated industry and I’m a stay at home dad. From the conversations we have she feels that I face more sexism in my role than she does in her’s.

However, whatever. Odd article in an odd magazine

P.s. I’d like to say “well done” to the author for learning to jump and for having the guts to use a foam pit, bug I’m concerned that if may appear patronising.

I think most would agree with that. 3 scenarios;

1. He is a troll
2. His written word doesn't come across as he thinks it does (i.e. it is not funny)
3. He is not funny

Benefit of the doubt would be option 2 so should take the feedback that it is not working and try and not piss people off with his posts unless of course he is trying to piss people off which makes him option 1

Just read through all these posts. After filtering out the handbags at dawn (which took a while) I thought that's disappointing, SP always came across as a decent bloke, what an odd and unnecessary thing to say.

Then I watched the video clip. It seems blindingly obvious to me from the laughter, the tone of delivery and body language that it was meant humorously. Perhaps still clumsy and ill advised, but no malice or misogyny. I know the 7% rule, which suggests 93% of face to face communication is non verbal has been debunked a bit, but whatever the actual figures, most people know the words you say (or write) convey only part of what you actually mean.

It might also explain why otherwise sensible people who would get on famously in real life, laughing over a few beers, can't interact on here without spats and bun fights?
