Still the same non technical , hardly any Singletrack boring featureless day out as it used to be ?

Lol! Boring and featureless are a bit harsh. Stunning scenery and half the route only open a few days a year and a ton of climbing sounds better and is why I'll be entering again.
Was billed as CX friendly last year so you're probably far too Radcore to the max 😉

Done it on cx bike the last couple of years with the kids(the short distance).

Have done the longer ones years back and always enjoyed it. Not very technical but local and comes at a nice time of the year for a blast.

You must have met him, surely no one can make such uncannily accurate guesses…? 😉

I always enjoy the SPAM Winter Challenge. Yes there is no real singletrack, it is mostly hard packed trails and military roads over Salisbury Plain. There are some stonking climbs, some muddy bits in the first 15km, great scenery, plus the odd tank and artillery range to negotiate.

Nope, he doesn't ring any bells 🙂

I love Salisbury Plain. I ride from Ludgershall to Warminster and back once every Summer and it recharges my soul for the year. Something about the long Wiltshire horizons, the skylarks and the unspoilt chalk grassland clashing with drones, artillery, Apaches and AS90 shells 😀 Makes for an interesting day out 🙂

Luckily for you, Edric, it's not compulsory.

So, feel free to don your gnar-pyjamas and shred some gnat instead. 😉

The SPAM Winter Challenge is a great event! Might even be able to make it this year....!

I just find it dull and featureless on the plain .It`s just as dull running events like the Bratton Hilly but I still seem to do them !!

Last time I did it I came back freezing cold to find that the assorted wives and girlfriends were in the pub with all the car keys.

It was worth it last year just to ride past some CX peeps for a change up that big grassy hill 😀

[IMG] [/IMG]

(And the scenery is neither dull or featureless 😉 )

It's obvious you didn't enjoy it when you rode the event so you're unlike to enjoy doing it again. The less miserable faces the better IMO.

HTH.

Interesting. Can you enter on the day or is it pre-entry only. Depends both on weather and also how the wife is (going in for big op on 16th) as to whether I'll be granted a pass, so if it is EoL-able that would be good!

Lol! Yes, I knackered myself out trying to keep up with you and that last climb out of Edington destroyed me! I was pleased though, that I rode the entire course without clipping-out once 😉 (Small victories and all that 😉 )

Out of interest, what would make the course interesting for you? As a CX friendly Mtb ride, I thought it was about perfect ??

Anyway!!!!!!! You said this last year:

That was a nice days riding, little wind not to cold and quick.Did the 50km in 2.43 which is my first time under 3 hours loads of quick people in front of me though and quite a few of us on cross bikes. There was a half marathon on as well out on the plain so Imber has probably not seen so many civvies since 1942

😉 😀

The main reason for little single track is the time of year and how muddy it can be! (just read some of the comments from last gorrick/brass monkey) If you want SINGLETRACK come and do the 12/6 hour race ERLESTOKE TWELVE.

Also it is family friendly event where a lot of kids get to give their new Christmas presents a good run out 😉 2 years ago a little girl did the 35KM raising nearly £1000 for charity.
Talking of which profits from the event do get donate to charity(s)

Also if anyone would like to marshal, you get feed and watered and money donated to you choose of charity/club (Scouts etc)

I be there as Finely Tuned Ride for any last mine bike adjustments/repairs and some parts etc. So please come and say hello, be good to put faces to user names!

Done it on an SS, full-susser and harddtail. I think I will be one of the CXers this year after putting RaRas on my Cotic X and taking it for a blast on the Quantocks this morning...

Second time for me and on the cx bike this time. Should be easy to spot on the 50k as I'll be the ginger bearded knackered looking one. The cake at the end was lovely last time, hoping for more.
Anyone know a sign on time/curfew?

I think registration starts at 8, race at 10.

Was pretty wet up on the top of the plain driving home tonight; will keep those mud tyres on!

I'll be on the yellow ioID not going particularly fast!

Well that was quite fun. Mikertroid I think I saw you at the end by the butty hut. Good cake as before, which please me. 2hrs 23 and only two excursions off the course but kept upright both times.

Shedbrewed

I came in about 2h38 I think. Was good fun; had a couple of interesting moments. Found the sight of a bunch of middle aged women in harnesses being dragged along by dogs strangely pleasant....

I'll get my coat.

Hats off to the couple on the Cannondale tandem as well. They caught me on the roads before Imber and then we were back and forth on the climbs and descents. They looked to be having a blast.

Sad to miss out on this. Again. 🙁

Children had an awful night and any sort of early start was scuppered. Glorious weather for it, too!

1st one for me. Only did 25km as the boy did it with me. He had good time as well. And if you were one of the people that made fuss of him, then thanks.

Couldn't make it this year, have been away visiting relatives.

It is a really good one to take the kids on (the 25km route). I think my youngest was 6 when he did his first one. A good blend of very rideable terrain for the kids, I highly recommend it!
