Howdy all.
I've heard rumours that its possible to fit a saint short cage assembly to an xtr shadow plus mech, making it the perfect choice for 1x10 duties.
Does anyone know where I can buy just the cage assembly for a saint mech? After splashing over 100 notes on my xtr mech, I'm not interested in doing the same again for a saint mech just to rape it for the cages. 😯

Yes you can. Part numbers you need are 5V5 0840 (£5.99) and 5Y2 9817 (16.99) but this second one is out of stock. You can use the Zee version 5Y5 9803 (£14.99) which is available.

Not quite answering the question, but... Not convinced Saint is always the ideal cage for 1x10. I've got a Saint mech with the wide-range mode set on a bike, with an 11-34 cassette, and the cage isn't long enough to work properly- it can't cope with the chaingrowth. (it shifts fine but if the chain's long enough to work in the 34, it hangs slack off the bottom in the 11)

Now, that's a bike with quite a lot of chaingrowth (a 224 Evo) but you could run into the same problem on other bikes, especially with a wider ratio cassette.

why are you running 11-34 on a DH bike?

i've just set up a zee mech on 33t front and 11-36 on my five.

copes fine even at full travel in 33-36.

Sometimes it gets ridden up. Mostly for the endurance dh race every year but I don't like pushing anyway.

Nice one mister p, where can one use the part numbers to gain short cage awesomeness? At that price I may put the zee one to the test to see if my theory works first. A zee/xtr hybrid! Like a supermodel in some scruffy rigger boots! Haha!

I don't think my covert has the chain growth of your bike NW, but worth keeping an eye on it when
I change over especially as I'm running 11-36 cassette!
I don't suppose that X-King ever turned up did it??
