90% sure they're all interchangeable.

I "think" you may need to use the narrower bore hoses if you're using the newer levers.

saint lever pushes slightly more fluid cos of the 4 pistons..
So may get less lever throw before they go full retard

saint lever is xtr but with slx blade

Madison kindly confirmed the above for me. They said:

Thanks for your email.

Unfortunately you cannot use the M820 lever with a M785 calliper.

The M820 lever is designed to operate the M820 calliper, which is 4 pot. So the amount of fluid being transferred is to much for the M785 calliper.

Best Regards
Shimano

Wow, you got a reply from Shimano. Is it a he or she?

historically you'd go the other way and fit an xtr lever with a saint caliper to calm down the fierce bite but the current m820 saint went a long way to sorting that out.

But you would think if the Saint lever is the same as the XTR lever. And the XTR lever only pushes enough fluid for the XTR caliper which is a 2 piston caliper it should work 😕

I am running XT levers with the Zee (4-pot, like Saint) calipers on my DH bike. Works great (though is backwards to what you want). As above surely your way round plenty of fluid for (potentially) less volume in the caliper?

Should be fine!

The piston in the lever is different
