Ok so ive had this saddle sore for a number of years in the same bit. Its only been a small lump if anything. It only seems to appear after a few rides a week. However over the last few months its got a bit worse. This morning I looked down to see a bloody blister which I now know was filled with quite red blood. No puss or anything but lots of blood.
Im using bibs and salvation arse cream and don’t get any chaffage so im unsure (apart from prolonged periods sitting on my arse) whats causing it.
Ive previously tried sudocreme and benthapan on it and it does down but I guess theres some scar tissue which is the bit that’s getting aggravated.
Is there a solution to getting it sorted or just put up with it each month? It seems too trivial to bother the docs with.
How about trying not riding at all for 2 or 3 weeks to see if it completely heals?
tried that. Had 5 weeks off and while it got better it reappeared almost instantly after a ride.
Sounds like a trip to the doctor might be best advice
Yeah, Bepanthan is a new discovery of mine (thanks nursey 😉 ) that is amazing at clearing this up.
If that ain't working you need a better/stronger antiseptic, so I'd see the doc.

If, like me, it's how the OP gets to work, no cycling is not really an option.
Rotate saddle a fraction?
Be very wary of saddle sores - I ignored a repeated issue that I had which sounds similar to yours and ended up having two operations 18 months apart for abscess that had developed. this can lead to real complications as the abscess can then fissure across to your rectum leading to all sorts of trouble....(imagine the fun of having a gaping hole in your backside needing 'daily' packing with surgical gauze...NOT much fun and took weeks to heal)
you have been warned 😉
my saddle sore/abscess turned out to be caused by combo of over-riding combined with some bib shorts that should have been binned as the padding was crap, coupled with a shit saddle...
Yeek. Almost as bad as that degloved penis 😖
oh ffs not what i was wanting to hear
If you really can't face the GP... Try a manuka honey dressing for a week. I made my own for a nasty saddle sore and was sorted in short order.
Get to the doc and let him check it out - I could have possibly saved myself from a world of pain (and almost 12 months off the bike..) if I had got some medical attention sooner...
your backside will thank you for it.... 🙂
I had one similar that I ignored, just kept riding and it wouldn't heal. Docs gave me antibiotics which didn't touch it... I had to have it cut out. Bag stitched up. Not riding for 6 weeks. I'm very wary of any little bumps that appear now!
Bepanthan (the yellow one) is the best cream though.

This and experiment with fore and aft position too.
Doctors. Your "japanese flag" area is not a bit of the body you should leave to get infected, abseses etc.
ye I've had to have a couple of cysts removed from my sit-bones area that formed due to wrong fitting saddle & shorts. Get it seen to by the doc, you might get some antibiotics to clear it up, if that's the case then find a saddle that fits properly and invest in some new shorts! Hopefully you won't have to go down the surgical route as it's erm... a pita!
wow, no appointments for over a month. oh well.
if its in the sitbone zone, hack a hole in the saddle directly underneath the welt so it has a place to settle without pressure... and it gets loads of folk talking when they see your saddle. It took me from lopsided peddling to full power in minutes.
Be generous with the hole size - a saddle is a tool, not a jewel; you can always buy another saddle once the problem has healed.
What about treating skin tag like things left over after the swelling and nasty ness has all cleared up?
To treat I've used a few things but I find medicated spot creams work well and was advised this by the doctor the one time I ended up on antibiotics for an infected one I ignored.
Creams might not help. I stopped using them so much except on really long or wet rides. Using them a few times a week on short rides probably doesn't help your skin sort itself out.
I've managed to use plasters in the past to offer some extra padding. Trick is to find one that will stay put under your shorts.
hmm its on the inside of my leg where my arse meets it. it would be my bikini line i guess if thats a thing? not really something i could cut a hole in a saddle for
