Longest climb iv ever done, not the steepest but goes on and on.
Nice climb Sa Colabra not long though compared to the alps.
Nice one. I've done Sa Calobra a few times, the hardest thing is avoiding the coaches on the hairpins! Sa Calobra isn't even the longest on Majorca (Puig Major from Soller is about 50% longer timewise) but it's probably the best.
Aye kept expecting it to get steep even the switch backs are flat compared to any of the named climbs on the marmotte
SA colabra is a Nice steepness to just tap out a steady rhythm
Great climb, love the variety of scenery and perversely enjoy the business!
Didn't enjoy my last run though, soooo hot and all those vare rocks turned it into an oven...
I'm going in April. Can't wait after my Majorca taster the other week with my not-really-a-cyclist partner. I got out to the Formentor lighthouse one morning which was spectacular. 50 mins from the last roundabout to the lighthouse on a hired hybrid as I'd promised to not be out too long.
Bradley has done it in 26mins apparently whilst trading for the tdf.
Took me double that. The top section after the corkscrew just kills. Saw a lass come to a standstill just before the top through the rocks, she fell sideways clipped in and then did the upside-down fly thing trying to exctracate herself whilst we all looked on helpfully.
I like it as a climb always too busy to descend flat out though. The puig is a great decsent, rewards road craft and bike handling skillz
Loved that climb. Borderline killed myself going up it last Xmas, I think i was fastest on strava for a day lol. Cap de Formentor was beautiful as well.
What was the weather like at Xmas?
It's such a fantastic place! I love all the popular stuff; Sa Calobra, Puig Major, Cap de Formentor, Port De Valldemossa.
Hoping to get myself back out there next year for a 40th birthday treat

First response is a hell of a way to piss on the OPs chips!
Sa Calobra is a baby compared to the big alpine climbs. It does give you a big mountain feel though with some great views and it's short enough to be enjoyable.
Hardly any traffic either if you set off at first light.
I really love that climb, much nicer than Puig Major for views.
No Mallorca can't be compared to the big mountains in the Alps but it makes it far more achievable for your average rider. You can do a long ride with decent mountains and thoroughly enjoy yourself. In the Alps or Pyrenees you might just climb the mountain and nothing else, you can end up doing a very difficult ride bit only covering 20 miles total.
We were out there in March and I started over towards Sa Colobra, but gave up before the descent after almost being taken our three times by overtaking cars coming the other way and wannabe pro racers going in the same direction. It was genuinely horrible and overcrowded in a way that the big Alps and Pyrenean climbs never have been for me. Just nasty. It probably didn't help that it was towards the end of the week and the last couple of days had been wet, so everyone and his dog was desperate to do the route before flying home.
It was much nicer last time were were there in December time tbh. The roads are lovely, but not my scene. It reminded a bit of the Isle of Man over TT week, too many riders crammed into too small a space. And yes, it probably would be quieter if you started at 6 o'clock in the morning, but that's not really my thing. YMMV obviously and clearly lots of people love it out there.
Have ridden it twice but never really enjoyed it.
Once shortly after getting over a chest infection and both times coming at the end of a long week and halfway through a last day century.
Went straight past it last time, over the Puig down into Soller!
You guys need to come to mainland Spain, loads of great routes here in Andalucía 🙂

Exactly! So ****ing what if there's bigger climbs in the Alps, endless gentle zig-zags do not necessarily an iconic climb make.
I turned myself inside out on Alp d'Huez, and I turned myself inside out on Sa Calobra, albeit for 20 less minutes. Sa Calobra sticks in my mind longer because it's just such a stunning road, so much more varied than the usual endless switchbacks in the Alps.
And if we're judging climbs purely on length then I call top trumps, Haleakela is 3000m direct fron sea level 😉
To be honest I’m fairly new to road cycling and first trip abroad to bike so it’s a starter, might venture into the alps sometime but for now I’m just happy to have done it
You gotta start somewhere
Well done OP. I really like the fact that most of this thread is about riding your bike up nice hills. Which is the best thing you can do.
Hooray!
I did it at the start of the year and it really was an experience. It's the kind of climb that pretty much anyone half fit could get up No issues, but you can make it as hard as you want by going full pelt if you like.
Can't wait to go back
