Staying in port da pollenca and considering hiring a bike to head over to sa colabra and back. Trying to figure out times and distance. 5 hours sound reasonable?
Did it in April, 93km, 2032m climb, four hours two mins moving, average 22.7km per hour. Out back via Lluc. So five hours with lunch at the bottom sounds fair.
Its under 60mls there and back, so even with the climbing 5hrs is reasonable for normal riders.
Maybe try this ride it's a little bit longer but the Coll de sa Batalla is a great climb.

The other climb is special in itself maybe better but that's a matter of opinion. There's no getting away from how good the Calobra is so that is a great route.
Timing should be good. The other advice is get out at the crack of dawn before the heat and the tourists get into Calobra.
Not wanting to abandon wife for too long as kids can be a handful sometimes. Hmmmm I'm decently fit so might be a good option, yeah early start to avoid the sun. Any tips on water stops as its more than two bottles worth I think.

+2...the tourists down in Calobra aren't particularly problematic though...its the bloody incessant convoys of coaches you want to avoid.
Get there and our again early or you run the risk of meeting the tourist buses on the decent or climb which can be entertaining. There is a cafe at the top where you can replen water.

Two bottles will easily last until you get to Sa Calobra. Fill one bottle for climb - fill again at the little shop on side of road that sells the oranges.
Expect climb to be oven like. The rock holds the heat!!
Well that was pretty great, avoided most coaches and loved the climb. Bit tired now though.
