Alright Folks,

What are the differences bertween the S-works frame and the pro 9mm carbon frame?

Obviously it'll be marginally stiffer etc, but is there a stated weight saving (or is the S-works heavier due to thicker lay up?), any stated quantified stiffness advantage?

Anybody compared the 2? I'm pretty sure I wouldn't notice any difference other than on the scales.

Cheers!

I think they are the same frame construction (FACT IS-X11m carbon Fiber) A riding buddy got a new Spesh last year and I'm sure I remember him saying the differences between S-Works and other models in the Carbon flavour are the components.

Could be wrong though

Edit
Apparently they are the same if you look on the Tech Specs -

Yeah - paintjob and a fancier shock are usually the only differences, the model below S-Works is usually better value unless you really want the badge

Ahhhh!

You're right, the S-works and pro are both the 11mm, but the elite carbon is only 9mm (front triangle with alu rear)...

Any idea on weight/stiffness difference between S-works/pro v elite? All the weights I see are for the full builds, so hardly fair with the massive difference in components.

I'm looking an offer of full build 2018 elite v a frame only sworks. No pro frame available.

We are running a couple of S Works and an Elite between us all in 29er flavour. One S Works was as a full build insurance replacement for a stolen one, one was frame only and is our daughters. The Elite is the abused for anything bike. Apart from the build spec I would go for the Elite over the frame only and sell on what I didn't want to get an even cheaper custom build. I cant tell the difference between the shocks and carbon rear.
Was going to do the same with a Stumpjumper earlier this year with the carbon comp and sell the rest on. could have got the full bike rather than just an S Works frame but then a hardly used frame came up at a steal and so opted for that.

I had the same dilemma earlier this year when speaking to Spesh re a crash replacement, for me it came down to colour of frames available, didnt like the pink/black of the elite or the cali fade on the pro but loved the chameleon on the s works so went for that.

It was annoying that although 2019 bikes were selling, they didnt have any of the frames available as the white elite would have been nice and less cash.

If I had the choice of the 9m frame and a proper shock (TTX22, Fox X2, DHX2) or the sworks and the woeful STX22. 9m frame every time.

On paper there will be a difference in stifness, doubt you would feel it on the trail. Carbon/ali wheels will have more a difference IMHO (I wont run carbon as they are too stiff/fragile)

Great, thanks for the replies.

I wasn't convinced on the pink/black at first, but the more I look at it the more it grows on me!

Looks like Specialized have completely re-designed the Enduro for their 2020 range, "Spy" shots leaking online show the shock linkage moved to downtube where the SWAT box is now...

Just to point out it's not 11mm it's just 11m for mountain, to differentiate from the road ones which are 11r etc. It's got no relationship to thickness or anything tangible, it's just bigger number = better frame.

Increasingly the S-Works models do now share a frame with the model below as stated, and you're purely paying for better bits and for it to say S-Works on it.

I’ve got the 2017 model Elite 650B, like someone else mentioned earlier fact 9 carbon aluminium rear triangle, had a way off in the shop with the next model up when I got it, and if I remember rightly not a massive difference, its a very durable bike apart from the brakes, I weigh in at 110 kg and it’s been bounced off trees rocks and abused in every possible way, my nephew has the later model mentioned in pink and black 29er slightly longer reach and Ohlins fork, love ridin that to, wait till this new one comes out, there’ll be some serious dicôunts out there, I’ve noticed the 2019 models are reduced on the USA website now

Well, you're all responsible for a nice big credit card bill next month!

Anyone want to buy a Blur LTcarbon?!!!

Exciting times!

Might as well be someone else who has a big bill😉
I'm sure you will enjoy it. What size wheels did you go for.

The current S-Works Enduro is a curious beast TBH when you compare it with the models below it in the line up. The Pro gets Ohlins coils both ends as standard, the half decent Spesh command post as opposed to the weird Wu-post thing, (which in use; is as bizarre as you think it is) admittedly one step down in Eagle drive-train, but same frame, same wheels, same tyres same swat box and stem tool, less adjustable, but otherwise same model brakes...and you only get the lovely Chameleon colour option in frame only...

I think njee mostly nails it, but I think it's hard to say whether the components are noticeably and measurably worth it for all that extra cash.

Good choice. I havent rode the 650b since I inherited the 29er. I was a bit worried how it would perform on the steep Alp descents but it was spot on and far more capable than me.
