My hands are quite small and I run my levers fashionably inboard.
This means that when braking I have my hands nearly an inch from the end of the bars, kind of defeating the point of wide bars.
I do find myself clipping trees quite a bit as I my brain thinks my hands are at the end of the bars
Is it always the case that levers are inboard? I mainly do it as I can put my index finger in the gap on long climbs as it feels comfy.
Maybe really short grips would be a good idea. Mine are 140 ,does anyone make some at 110 or something that can be cut down?
Even with narrower bars I’ve found it an issue, especially when I bought a bike with 150 mm grips . That was always having me off on a corner that I had no problems with before.
Put your levers where you need them in order to have your preferred one or two fingers on the levers with your hands in their normal position. For me that's about an inch gap between grip and lever clamp but if you have wider grips or narrower hands it'll be less.
As above, why would you run your levers such that you have to move your hands to use them..!?
Thinking about it I don't consciously move my hands to brake ,I probably just ride around with an inch of spare handlebar at each end.
I shall experiment with short grips and slam the levers up to them.
Cut your bars down, it sounds like they are too wide if you hands keep moving inwards.
