I've been off the bike since October (heart issues) and am tentatively starting out again. I ride (pootle) gravel on my Swift and have picked up a pair of Terreno XC tyres in 2.1" size just to try something new (they replace 2" Kenda's).

They're rated at 30-50 psi (I used to run the Kendas at about 35psi) but even at 30psi they feel rock hard. I think that part of the issue is that they're huge, much bigger than the nominal .1" increase would suggest; I'm putting it down to generous sizing and much taller sidewalls (rather than them being mislabelled 2.25s).

So is there a problem running them lower? I assume that PSI ranges are there for a reason. I'd probably only drop them 5psi or so to start.

They're set up tubeless which, from what I gather, usually means that they can be run a bit lower than if tubed.

Don’t think I’ve ever used a tyre within the stated PSi

You can safely ignore recommended PSI ratings, especially if running tubeless.

You can safely ignore the lower PSI rating, would not ignore the upper unless it's just to get the tyre seated 🙂

You know, I don't think I've ever checked what pressure a manufacturer has recommended. Since I went tubeless, I use about 20-ish  front and 25-ish rear, and adjust a bit up or down from there.

I run 2.3 tires at 15 psi.

Jumbo Jim's at 5 psi - even had to get a digital guage to get the pressure right. They ride so much better on the snow when they're that low.

I run my 29+ at about 12 psi and on my fat bike, I've run them as low as 1-2 psi on soft snow, because any higher and you're pushing.

There's a psi range for tyres!?! Genuinely can't remember ever looking but i i guess I'd always be going lower anyway and assume that at average weight, itd be in or close to range
