You don't need to be an 'investor' to invest in Singletrack: 6 days left: 95% of target - Find out more
I very recently treated myself to a shiny new set of RF Turbine 30mm cranks and Hope BB. I've now gone and snapped my frame. I've been offered an unrefusable deal on a frame but it has a press fit BB.
Now I don't want to have to buy another BB as I've only just bought my hope one, and I don't really want to run press fit as everybody who has it says it's awful. So I'm wondering if there's any reason why I couldn't put a PF30 to BSA BB adapter in the frame, and then put my threaded 30mm external BB into that? I can't see any reason why it wouldn't fit, as long as the adapter was wide enough for a 30mm axle to pass through.
Adapter in mind: http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/fsa-pf30-threaded-adapter-b3167-/rp-prod129936?gs=1&gclid=CJLVwsPh3M4CFUI_Gwod0PEP1Q&gclsrc=aw.ds
as everybody who has it says it's awful
I don't and mines done 9000 miles on and off road in all weathers.
Provided the BB shell is 73mm wide, it'll be OK - to make them creak-free they need to be installed with the right grade of Loctite
So it now gets more complicated. Having picked the frame up I've realised it's a 92mm BB she'll, I didn't even know they existed. After a Google search it looks like I'm just going to have to get a new crankset. Any ideas on this?
Edit - if the BB is 92mm x 41mm ID then it's BB92
Get some M47x1 threads cut in your PF30 shell and fit a T47 bottom bracket: No creaks, 30mm-compatible, decent size bearings and no heavy adapter.
White Industries and Chris King also make them, but I think CK are still focusing on OEM due to limited production capacity.
Your other option would be Hope's PF option where the two sides thread together, helping reduce movement between the shell and cups.
Just run the pf30. It should last a year and is bloody easy and cheap to replace at £30 a go!
Right I've sorted it. Going to buy one of these, provided my BB ID is 41mm...

Just very annoying as I spent £70 on a Hope BB about three weeks ago
Joefm> should being the operative word. My first one was for the bin after 6 weeks. The second is ready after 8
That's what I've heard off my trusted LBS and a lot of reviews say the same. In the long run I imagine a Hope would work out cheaper
you can sell the hope BB you've already got to recoup a few quids.
