Hi,

I'm looking for a rucksack for use on the bike to store multi-tool, thin jacket, tubeless repair kit, inner tube, couple of small things for lunch and small flask or something. I have no idea what size to go for. Should be be looking around the 10/12/14 litre size? I've seen the Osprey Synchro 12 which I think maybe OK but it's difficult to judge online.

What does everyone use?

I take a 10-12l pack with me only if I'm spending the whole day out - so a day's food, waterproof, insulated layer, 2-3l water, all tools. I do, however, have a tube strapped to my frame.

For 1-2hr rides something 4-8l would be fine - or a bum bag or just jersey pockets.

I have a syncro 10 for commuting - i can fit a thin windproof top and work tshirt with a little room to spare in the main compartment, wallet and phone in the outer pocket and pump/tube/tyre levers/multi tool in the 2nd main compartment.

I have this pack and fit a laptop, few clothes tools and food on it for commuting. Sounds like it would work well for your use. Only gripe is that it has no"keepers" for the ends of the straps. This means they flap about unless you make some (like I did)

I'm not overly impressed with mine.

The compression straps are in totally the wrong place. It loads oddly of not full. It's complex in construction and has odd things missing. Form over function IMO.

Other than that it's stable and comfortable.

But it's not as good as my old Vaude bike n hike.

Until matt posted I thought it was probabky the one to go for. Any others I should be looking at, probably around the 12L size as it seems like it would hold what I need.

Just to add to your confusion I have a Shimano Rokko 16 which I got to replace a Camelbak Mule LR - on both of these I don't use a bladder.

The Rokko 16 is perhaps too big at 16 litres but the Rokko 12 is available - Rokko 12

So far I prefer it to the Camelbak as I find it more stable.

Hmm, I'll have a look at the Shimano too then. Anyone got anything from Evoc?

I have an Evoc Stage 12 which is very good and extremely comfortable. It does hold a fair bit, so much so that I bought a Stage 6 for short rides and a Stage 3 for minimalist gravel outings !

Not a fan of the new osprey synchro.... The older raptor was better imho. I am selling, sorry, a Ergon bx3 16 litres brand new never used and tags, will sell it for £50, personally feel they carry the weight better than most bags as it is lower on your hips.

Dunno if I’m an odd shape but I find the newer anatomically shaped packs a bit rubbish

I bought a Camelbak Skyline and it spend most of a ride trying to fly over my shoulder. I have to tighten the cinch straps after every big drink of water

Really wish I’d bought an Osprey Raptor. Or just stuck with my 10yr old Dakine

I've got a raptor 10.

Enough space for lunch, a jacket and tools.tube with the bladder full.

The separate tool section at the bottom means your tools (except pump/shock pump) can live there and not have to be unpacked every time you take the bladder out to fill it up. The bladder has its own compartment, but getting a full bladder in and sitting right with everything else in has never worked on any bag i've owned.

While I go to great lengths to avoid a pack at any opportunity, it is the best pack I have ever had. I use it for walking and occasionally skiing too.
