My last RST forks were Mozo Pro's, an 'upgrade' from the 381's that came on my clockwork..

Keeping it [s]real[/s] retro...

I therefore don't think I'm best placed to comment..

My first pair of suspension forks were ā€˜00/ā€˜01ish RST Gamma TLs, 75mm of elastomer sprung, rebound adjustable Ā travel. They went up and down l, with varying degrees of predicableness, dependent on prevailing ambient temperature. Crown was bolted to the (1ā€ threaded) steerer, once came undone, my nose is a different shape to what it was previous to this incident... I upgraded to Marzocchi Z1s not long after.

These beauties....

I’m in a similar camp to Matt OAB tbh.

Seems like it was a couple of years behind the curve back in 2015 but not "bad" as such.

Had the chance to bike the Big Trail 800 for a bit. But your bike must be a different model year. The one I checked out had a RockShox fork. Definitely a fun bike. Model year 2017 I think.

No idea about the RST Rogue fork. Some kids (around 13 years?) in our bike group have bikes with RST Aerial 130 mm forks. Great forks for the kids - they jump and do all kind of crazy stuff with the forks. Very easy maintenance. Every half year we take the Aerial forks apart and regrease them with "liquid o ring pm 600" military grease. 20 minutes or so and the job is done. Really strange so: the RST Aerial "freezes" up around freezing point. Cold temperature biking doesn't work with the Aerial. The "Rogue" forks are better? No idea.

Last winter: bike-components.de had a "FOX SALE". No idea if they repeat this next winter. We all bought excellent FOX Float Rhythm forks - for 29 inch and 27.5 inch bikes. 130 mm ... 150 mm travel. Boost. 199 ... 299 Euros. Some have these forks already put in. Great, great forks (many threads about them, this forum). In the case bike-components.de repeats this kind of Fox fork winter sale I wouldn't be too worried about an replacement fork for a Big Trail 800 any more. Personally I judge the RST forks as great for kids. But that's based only what we see with the RST Aerial version... Wonder a bit that the Big Trail 800 has an RST fork...

My mate had some RST 461s, weren't as good as my Manitou X-Verts or my other mate's Marzocchi Z2 X-Flys but were an upgrade over his previous Rockshox Indys.

Guess I'm with Matt and Tom

Didn't realise RST were still going...

RST F1rst air forks for 24" wheels seam good for kids. My lad has some on his bike but from riding his bike round the garden I don't think they'd be that great for someone who is bit heavier set....

Had a set of RST 281's back in about 1996 or 1997. Now it looks like they'r trying to make more competetive forks so I'd be interested to ride some if I had a chance.

Just been googling that bike. Seems quite an up range bike to have RST's on?

For example they now come with Yaris fitted.

Any chance they have been retrofitted I wonder?

I've seen the Merits Big Trails with anything from RAT up to RD Yari fitted, I guess there were different spec levels. The RST Rogue doesn't seem to get great reviews, but on paper looks ok. 34mm stanchions, air sprung, 15mm axle etc.

If the price us right then I say go for it, just don't be surprised if you end up replacing the forks sooner rather than later.

Looks like my sausage fingers affected my post above...

They're budget air forks. Having said that, I'm using Suntour Raidons at the moment and I don't think they're a huge step down from the RS Sektor I had previously tbh.

The Big trail is the 2017 model but as stated it has the wrong fork on, to be honest its not even a demo model it has just been shipped to stores for them to sit on and look at before they where rolled out, the price is really good under a grand so even if I buy the yari fork I am getting a good deal and they have not changed the frame for 18.

Cheers for Ā all the replies, I know the RST vogue fork has limited info on the web. even though mbr rated it as 2/5 lol

looks like I will be upgrading the fork before long
