Hello.

I have the RSP Plummet on my hardtail and it's been fairly fault free for a year or so (albeit, it doesn't like very cold temperatures).

I was tidying my cables the other day and removed the post and re-installed it. When back in position, the lever no longer springs back and the post sags under weight and then pops back up when the weight is removed. It won't stay down. I've changed the inner and outer cables. I've emailed Raleigh for advice and a service manual - none was supplied at purchase and I can't find anything online. I'm not especially hopeful of a quick resolution from them given the number of times I was referred to my "nearest Raleigh specialist", I don't think I've seen one since the mid 80s!

Anyone else had a similar issue? Or know about servicing these posts, or have better Googling skills than me and managed to find a manual?

Thanks in advance.

I got told this when I asked about service/spares:

The Plummet post is a sealed cartridge design that is non serviceable, however, we would recommend changing the actuation cable regularly and also keeping the the post clean and the upper stanchion lubed with a silicone based spray.
The only spares available are replacement remote levers.

The closest I could get to servicing mine was to undo the bit at the bottom and just clean up what I could and give it a light coat of (slick) grease.

Disappointing, but thanks. I'll have a go at the bolt at the bottom.

Stealth or non-stealth model?

I had a similar problem on my stealth model, and it turned out I'd put a little bit too much tension on the cable, so the post was acting as if the lever was depressed the whole time. Literally backed it off half a turn and it was fine.

It's non stealth, but the newer design. Although it's my second bike and not used extensively, it hasn't been serviced at all. Hopefully a good clean inside will help.

Had a similar issue with mine recently, turned out that the internals had unscrewed itself at the bottom of the main shaft, causing the piston to be too far down for the lever to actuate.

I used some circlip pliers to screw it back in, took a few tries to get the insertion depth right and adjust the cable tension but now working fine again.

I have the manual that came with mine, but it just covers cable replacement which it sounds like you've covered.

had mine for about 18 month now and last ride out the lever stop having an effect so that it dropped when i sat on it and returned up when i got off.

Went to replace cable last night and found that the cable assembly wasn't attached to anything.

i guess like the post above something has dropped down into the post and needs lifting back up.
