Been getting occasional twinges in my right knee for a couple of year now, usualy when going down stairs getting a sharp pain down the front of my knee. Doesn't usually bother me on the bike but today I did an hour on the indoor bike as it was peeing down and my knee has been nagging ever since.

I'm getting on a bit at 58 so could be some sort of old age arthritis thing but I'm thinking maybe RSI. Working as a postie on a very rural round for the last eight years I get in and out of my van around 200 times per day so that is levering my self up and out and lowering myself back in all on my right knee. Does that souns familliar to anyone here? Could it be RSI?

Go and see a decent sports physio - that’s the best advice I was ever given.

Had a similar sounding problem at about 35 years old: the GP told me it was just the signs of getting old. A year later a good sports physio diagnosed it properly and after about 6 months of doing the stretching and exercises it was gone.

Now 30 years later I occasionally get a twinge again, but a few days of doing the stretches sees it off.

I had similar and a physio identified one leg as stronger than the other. The imbalance was causing problems. Getting in and out of the van could cause it I imagine. A decent physio is worth the money IME.

I've been a cycling for 15 years and a Postie for 12. Had a dodgy left knee for a good few years now (more of an ache than a sharp pain). I had meniscus surgery in said knee but years later I still suffered from the tightness/ache.

I put it down to something work related such as getting in and out of a big transit van every two minutes and noticed that I twist the left knee everytime I get in.

I started to be more mindful of getting in, combined it with knee strengthening yoga exercises and I also started to wear barefoot shoes as I'd read that they can work for knee pain (all about 6 months ago). My knee is much much better now and I no longer think about the possibility of needing surgery again.

A side note - I also get a dodgy left shoulder now and then, which again I think is from reaching over to put my seatbelt on every two minutes. So I've started to do shoulder strengthening exercises.

If my newly diagnosed (rheumatoid) arthritis is anything to go by, when it hits your knee you'll be in agony. Fingers crossed it's a bit of wear and tear that a physio can sort out for you.

Cheers folks, sounds like a physio is the way to go. Would be good to catch it before it gets any worse if it is sonething that can easilly be sorted.

@elduderino12 which Barefoot shoes do you use? been reading a bit about them and they sound interesting. What does the Dim say about you wearing them for work? I tried being mindful about how I get in and out but once I start rushing(most days) it tends to go out the window.

I use the Primus Trail FG and as of yet I've not had any comments from management.

I initially changed into them once out of office and back out of them when I returned - soon gave up on this as about 25% of people at work don't wear Royal Mail footwear anyway.

Took a bit of getting used to them but now love them. It wasn't an instant fix, just a slow realisation that after a couple of months I hadn't had a bad knee for a while.
