Swapping a wheel over last night and looked at the dropout on my recently acquired Yari fork (29/27.5+ boost) and it seems odd. The machined area where the hub usually sits is miles bigger than the hub axle caps so the hub is supported entirely by the axle. It's almost as if the dropouts have been machined for a 20mm through axle rather than the 15mm that's fitted. The hub is a non boost pro 2 evo with the hope adaptor but I doubt boost hubs have that much extra material on the caps around the axle do they?

Designed for Torque caps, another RS 'standard'..

Well nowhere on the spec of the forks did it 'kin mention that! I assume I need a silly SRAM hub to work properly/safely with these then.
A bit more info here: http://www.bikemag.com/industry-news/first-look-2016-rockshox-products/#f3etBIjURoR5TlCW.97
I'm going to be getting some new forks (Lyrik or Yari) but will be building DT hub'd wheels. I'll be having a look to see if I can machine something to suit the torque cap fitting..
Hmmm, well i'll be interested if you do albeit mine are hope. Speaking of which I will drop them an email as I suppose they will be working on adaptors. Stupid standards.
The Yari and Lyrik both work fine with standard 15mm hubs. The 'torque cap' thing is just a way to increase stiffness with the existing axle standard, assuming your hub (SRAM only at the moment I think) has them. Considering the Yari and Lyrik are already stiffer than the pretty damned stiff Pike, I can't see many riders needing the torque caps.
It just feels strange that there is nothing supporting the hub end caps apart from the axle, even though the machined area on the fork is only a tiny ledge.
You don't need to use the Torque caps or change your hub. It's a choice.
Ok, I'll continue as I am then. But if my axle snaps and i end up in a mangled mess i'll come hunting for the random internet people who told me it will be fine 😀
Its just annoying that without the torque caps, the hub doesn't just rest in the correct position before inserting the axle.
When tightened the wheel is located by being squashed between the drop-outs, so no difference.
Its no different to the rear of the original 135x12 rear standards that didn't locate the wheel.
as per the other posts above, the "torque caps" are optional. According to rockshox they increase stiffness when used compared to a regular hub end cap. Not sure whether its a noticeable increase though.
One thing is certain that if you dont use the torque caps, it makes lining up the wheel with the fork a slightly more difficult affair.
I'd guess that most hub manufacturers will produce torque caps soon enough - although I emailed superstar components a week or so ago and they say they have no plans to produce them for their hubs.
Those bits aren't loadbearing anyway, the spindle's doing that job- the shrouds you sometimes get just made it easier to fit the wheel. Don't worry about it basically.
Hope makes torque caps for theirs hubs
