I'm about to get a new bike and it has a 30.9mm seat tube, I currently have a 31.6mm Reverb fitted to my HT.

Can I swap out the lower tube from a 31.6mm to a 30.9mm tube and then run the post in each frame (obviously with a shim in the larger of the two)?

If not, are there any other solutions other than a new post?

Shim it. They can be hard to find but USE do a 30.9-31.6 shim for not much money.

Edit: oops, just reread the post - got a bit mixed up didn't I 😳

I have a 31.6mm post and am getting a frame with a 30.9mm seat tube, not the other way round hence the question of swapping lower tubes 🙄

No, you need a new post

I'm in a similar position and I had a vague recollection of being told that this could be done through Fishers via your LBS.

Memory (perhaps failing?) of this conversation was the lower tube assembly is not available as a spare part but a rebuild with a new lower can be done if you send it off.

I was going to follow this up in the next few days so I'll let you know how it goes.

Cheers,

Simon.

Buy a 30.9 reverb post and swap the two lower tubes across, then sell the 31.6 one? 😆

LBS have confirmed that the lower can be changed easily. Not sure about price yet though.
