I need to do a lower leg service on my Pikes and the Sram manuel is stating that I should use 0wt-30 oil. Bit unsure about using motor oil Are there any recommendations for 0-30 or alternatives to this??
Thanks in advance

My understanding is that you can use any

    fully synthetic

0wt/30 motor oil.

The Rockshox stuff isn't particularly expensive and you don't need very much.

What does this oil actually do if it sits in the bottom of the fork lowers ?

Fork oil different to engine oil. Anti foaming additives for one.

Motor oil works fine. It’s just for lubrication so doesn’t need anti foaming agents like damper oil does.

I’ve been using 0w40 as I had it spare anyway. Forks are always fine when they’re stripped down.

I've been using motorbike fork oil in the correct weight for years and never had any issues. Its cheaper than the RS stuff too

I picked up the service kit from TFTuned for my 2017 pike RCs and did a service a couple of months ago and have had no complaints so far. The oil that came with it seems to be doing it's job.

I've used the tf tuned lower lube and it's been fine.
