Hi all,

Had a little blast this morning and have noticed that when the forks are wound down - doesnt matter where in the travel range as long as its less than full travel as far as i could tell - i get a clicking sound when i weight up the fork, or put the power down, now i thought it might be something needing tightening or a bit of cable slap as thats roughly what it sounded like, ie pulling the front brake cable away from the fork leg and it slapping back.

However to rule it out i have just stripped fork and wheel from bike and compressing it creates the click so seems the fork is the culprit.

Definately doesnt do it at full 140mm travel and very sure it never did it before, if it did, its definately only just got bad enough to notice.

Any thoughts.

Sounds like the coil knocking on inside of stanchion. I wrap my spring with a few layers of cling film and lightly lube with grease to prevent it.

Any reason why it would start doing that? Time for a service maybe?

probably because all the grease has gone from the sides of the spring or the small piece of heatshrink they put on the spring has moved. I've had 2 pairs of coil pikes, and 3 different springs, all have knocked in certain u-turn settings.

common fix is a durex. Don't bother with flavoured..
the spring does'nt care.

cheers guys, gonna fit a firm spring soon anyway so will put up with it until then.

How about a ribbed durex? will that increase the pleasure of my rides...

It does this if you refit the spring with the fork wound down even slightly. Before you take out a spring- make sure you have clicked back the travel to 'full'.

One of the guys in the club had a similar problem recently. It turned out to be the sleeve over the spring had slipped down ... moved it back up to the middle .. sorted..simples.

D'oh I meant to write heatshrink above, not cling film! Suppose a Durex would work also! 😆
