I noticed during a ride on my Dads bike (rear tyre) the tyre jacket seemed to be delaminating.
Got home and took the tyre off, a Michelin Wild AM.
Then noticed this seration/almost like a saw all around the whole rim (both sides) ???? Anyone seen this before or know what could of have caused this ?
He rides a Turbo Levo 2015.
Should I file it smooth ? Or get onto Roval. Orginal wheels from new.
Yes, unfortunately that was my first thought. I think you need to interrogate your Dad under a bright light!
I guess I will have to file it down a bit. I guess the serrations have booked the tyre edge.
Or a new wheel :-(. Dont want to keep putting new tyres on, to keep delamining or get cut by the sharp edges.
In fairness he has always ridden with low pressure.... Bugger.
Thanks guys.
The bare aluminium ‘serrations’ along the top of the rim are indicative of the wheel being ridden with a flat tyre - it doesn’t help that the serrations do a good job of sawing their way through the tyre sidewalls too. The sidewall wear can also be due to riding an under-inflated tyre.
Out with the sanding block and diamond file.
Do It, Do it now.
Thanks again.
I had a 2018 Levo, running tubeless, and the rims did exactly the same. I was surprised how sharp it was.
For clarity, I never rode with a flat tyre. I was running a 2.8 tyre with no insert, so couldn't run a crazy low pressure either.
I sanded it smooth with wet and dry. Eventually the axle in the hub snapped.

How much material did you take off?!?!?
