Looking to get these for my stumpy fsr. Anygood?
I have 2 pairs of ELs rather than ALs so not totally comparable... IIRC the rim is the same but the rest is different, so I'll just talk about the rim and the overall picture...
The rim's a fairly durable bit of kit, probably quite comparable to a Stans Arch only with eyelets, and has shaken off a lot more bad hits than my old 719s could withstand. It's actually surprisingly hefty considering the weight of the wheelset. However, it does ding relatively easy, the alloy seems fairly soft. Makes it easy to fix also 😉
I've finally destroyed a rear wheel, and all I can say is, it took a hell of a lot to do it. Final straw was the Dudes enduro at kinlochleven, which was 2 days of hard messy rocky riding, variously with flat tyres, broken spokes, and then a mech right through the wheel mid timed stage. TBH putting them on a 160mm enduro bike was a big ask and it was already quite shagged out before the race so it did well to complete the day at all.
Other defining ride- flatting midway down the innerleithen classic in an enduro race, which meant riding through most of the rock sections on innerleithen's black route then battering it down a load of rocks and roots in the natural section. Some dingage, but wheel remained straight and happy.
I was impressed by them and happilly still beating the snot out of the other 3. Use the Roval blue tape and valves if you go tubeless, it's better than the Stans equivalent, and the rims are designed for the big flat valves not the Stans tapered ones.
I've decided not to replace/rebuild that one, as frankly I was expecting them to work above their paygrade. The set in the hardtail's going nowhere. Should be a good match for an FSR.
