Going up to Scotland next month to ride some of the routes people have suggested around Torridon. However we are staying further north near Loch Ewe. Are there any interesting roiutes for the days we just want to ride out of the door? Don't mind a bit of hike-a-bike as long as there is a nice down afterwards.
I've not done all of the route in this link but I had a sampler of the more exciting part of the Tollaidh Path - great riding and fantastic views of Loch Maree. This starts near to Poolewe.
A nice, long out and back route with nothing too technical but a very 'out there' feel is the ride out to Carnmore, also from Poolewe. The crags around the Dubh Loch are amazing. There may be continuations from there but if memory serves me well I've read on here of difficulties towards Shenavall. I've walked the path that descends to Carnmore from that side and thought it would be great to ride (I was coming off A'Mhaighdean and Ruadh Stac Mor and contemplating the looong walk back to Poolewe and really missing the bike that day).
Torridon is fantastic - hope you get good weather.
The above two, plus you can ride in to Loch na h'Oidhche from the A832 near Gairloch. There's a lovely bothy at the end of the loch.
(my blog entry for the Carnmore route is here)
For a wee spin, head up from Sheildaig Lodge on the B8056 to the Liberator crash site and memorial at Lochan Sgeireach.
2nd half of this thread was around Carnmore, great excursion if you get the chance. Could add-in a bit of techy stuff on north side of Loch Kernsary if your of a mind.
One I looked at, on the map, was a trail from Inverasdale inland, to the NWest - starts at grid NG 811 859. Think it didn't look too bad on Geograph.
The Sheildaig path Druidh mentions is good fun, weather affected though so keep an eye on the forecasts there over the preceding week (same for anywhere I s'pose). This is the very trail -

Loch na h-Oidhche too (well-formed stoney track out-of-shot) -

Had really hoped to get various MTB / Road rides back home (nr Gairloch) this year, happily foiled by bouncing child... Hope you get a good week, decent spring days in Highland = win.
Thanks chaps, better start replacing chain and pads in anticipation!
