You don't need to be an 'investor' to invest in Singletrack: 6 days left: 95% of target - Find out more
Taking the campervan to the aforementioned for a week in early september, my OH doesn't have any interest in bikes but shes happy for me to take my trail bike and possibly have a day to myself as well as the odd hour here and there if we have no other plans.
I've had a quick browse of Trailforks and there seems to be quite a lot on paper but obviously locals knowledge is always best when it comes to route planning. I'd class myself as a proficient rider but i don't want to be taking anything too gnarly on as i'll be riding on my own and want to limit the chances of a big off whilst somewhere remote (not to mention the b****cking i'd get).
Anywhere i can ride to from the campsites then thats always a big bonus as it means i don't have to move the van and it leaves the OH with a base too!
If you're in oban (gallanach campsite?) There's some paths amongst the hills between there and oban. There's trails in the woods to the southeast of the golfcourse, and some trails heading up to dunbeg.
I've walked all over it (there with work, no bike), if I get a chance I'll get a bike down the trails near the golf course tho.
Cracking scenery all over, but boggy in some places.
A loop around kerrera in good weather is pleasant for an afternoon, there used to be a seafood cafe hut type thing over there too which was perfect for a bit of food and a beer before the short ferry crossing back to oban
Stayed on a site half way up Loch Lomond three years ago and rode The Cobbler from there. Cool enough up and down ride. Not too tech and not that busy (was there in August). To be fair, I got driven to the bottom of the hill and then rode back on the road and lochside path, but it would be totally doable as a there and back ride too as long as you weren't staying too far south.
Take Smidge and apply beforehand, as much for the ticks as the midgies.
Ardgarten and Glen Loin loops near Arrochar are mostly scenic fire road with some lovely singletrack descents.
There's an easy loop around Loch Lyon from Bridge Of Orchy train station. Umpteen river crossings but safe at this time of year if the weather holds. No phone signal for much of it.
If your partner can drop / uplift you. There's a classic ride west from Bridge of Orchy to Victoria Bridge, west through Glen Kinglass to Loch Etive and then south to finish at Taynuilt. Go prepared, there's hee haw habitation, phone signal etc and no cafe after the Inveroran Hotel.
Go to Glencoe and ride the 'red' from the chairlift for a few hours, decent base for your other half to go for a walk or a bite at kingshouse hotel.
Cobbler far too busy at the moment, ditto Ben Lomond. BL car park was 3/4 full at 5.30am on Saturday.
Brilliant, i'll look into some of the replies and get some plans drawn up. Thanks everyone! 🙂
