Hi all first off sorry if this has been done before. Having moved to Dronfield near the Peak District I'm wanting to explore the trails. I regularly see mtbers riding down the road covered in mud as I'm driving through the peaks from Dronfield but haven't got a clue where they have been! Excited to find out!
Going with a group of local riders would be best. Does anyone know of any mtb clubs/groups that could show me around?
Are there any decent websites that I can download routes for a garmin gps if I buy one.
Cheers
Rich
Hey,
I used to live in Dronfield. It's quite a sprawling place, but from Dronfield Woodhouse I used to head through Kitchen Wood to Holmesfield, then you can go down Cartledge Hall Lane, or any of the bridleways around there. You can also get to Blackamoor via Totley. If you live in Dronfield proper you can get out via Monk Wood to Linacre, but I do not know the best trails.
All will get you sufficiently muddy! If these areas do not sound familiar, pick up an OS map or look on bing maps.
Thanks jrdubya I'll have a look at those routes and get myself a map. I'm in Dronfield Woodhouse.
Definitely head over towards Totley and Blackamoor, lots of routes to loop on and also only 20 mins from there to Lady Cannings. Just moved to Totley myself in the last three months and got my biking back on form as a result.
Hi, Dronfield is a good base, you can go in any direction & make a good route.
I am in Dronfield woodhouse, send me a email & I can give you some routes.
Have a look at the vertebrate publishing books on the peak district - lots of good options there. There are also some gpx downloads on their website for the white peak:

Thanks everyone lots of good info! Sounds like there are plenty of options around!
Search for 'coggers' (a MTB group based in Sheffield) on that Facebook for an informal friendly bunch to ride with. The larger trail advocacy group is Ride Sheffield. Both are worth joining.
And Peak District MTB. The clue's in the name
Good point ... concentration on Sheffield... 🙂
Cartledge lane from holmesfield is great, from there you can link bw together down towards Linacre (see the vertebrate book) and then back. There are loads of bw in the valley between Holmesfield & Barlow.
You can push out to shilitoe woods (see os map) and from there you have curbar, froggart edge, eastern moors bw (google it)
There's a group ride out from the Little John in Hathersage each Wednesday at around 6.30pm. Hope Valley Bike Riders (aka Lard Arses) on FB.
18 Bikes in Hope also do a ride out once a month. And Alpkit are planning to do the same from their shop in Hathersage but I don't think they've got anything organised just yet.
Other than that, this book is excellent:

Then there's the 'Coggers' group as already mentioned.
Linacre Classic. Congrats, you've just moved somewhere excellent for mtbing. Plenty of the white and dark peak within 30 mins driving!
The Linacre classic, from the white peak. VB book.
