Hi,
I have just bought a mountain bike and started riding again for the first time in 20 plus years, looking to loose weight and get fit, I am really enjoying it,
i am based in Shepley near Huddersfield and just wondered if anyone could recommend any routes in this area?
Many thanks
Mark
You might get more replies if Huddersfield was in the title, perhaps the Mods can change it
Plan A is to buy an OS map or two. Also look at Strava heatmaps
No with actual routes but I thought I'd elaborate on jambalaya's post.
Get onto strava, look for segments in your area. You'll have to find ones that are off road to start. Then have a look down the leaderboards and open up the rides of people. As these guys are riding in your area you'll be able to see where they are going. You can repeat on more segments until you start to build up a picture.
The other two websites I like are bikehike.co.uk and "where's the path" (google it, the url is not intuitive).
These let you see OSM bike cycling maps, ordnance survey, google, satellite images. You can start to look at tracks and bridleways on the OS maps and then check them out on satellite to see if they are wide gravel or through a ploughed field.
If you want easy routes then things like the national cyclenetwork is a good starting point.
Finally use your phone, a gps or paper map. When you head out on rides, when you see something interesting, go explore it, mark it on a map and see if you can link it up to anything else.
Hi Guy's,
Many thanks for all your help, i will get out there and keep you posted.
thanks again
Mark
