Hey guys,

Any nice routes that you would recommend round North Manchester or the West Pennines (up Oldham, Saddleworth, Glossop) way?

Something to break the new gravel bike in would be great. Bonus points for a cake/coffee stop.

Thanks in advance 🙂

Ncn 62 or the tpw up into the peak from Stockport, down the canal from Marple to ethiad, tpw to Liverpool, followed the one up from Manc to Todd too, basically canals are your friend to start with

All of it! I'm near Milnrow and can honestly say that pretty much all the trails over Blackstone Edge, Calder valley and Marsden are all good fun, provided not too boggy.

Huddersfield canal with coffee stop in Uppermill. Link said canal to fallowfield loop at Ashton. The old railway line between Stalybridge and greenfield is a good one. A decent loop can be made of that and The canal.

You can do a really nice loop out of Hadfield, along the Longdendale Trail, then down towards Dunford Bridge, cut left past the reservoir, up the road a bit, then left down towards Holmfirth - route 66 or 68, can't remember which - left on the bridleway that ends up coming out on the penultimate bend of Holme Moss, then over past Digley res, pick up the amazing slabbed bridleway that cuts up to the Isle of Skye road. A short stretch of that then down the Pennine Way route into Marsden - cake at Crumbals on the Corner - out and up on the road to pick up the Pennine Bridleway then follow that all the way back over the top to Hollingworth / Glossop again.

Some of it borders on mountain biking, but it's a really nice ride. You can cut out the Marsden bit by turning left on the Isle of Skye road and following it down into Greenfield - long, long, fast road descent - and picking up the Pennine Bridleway there.

I'd be careful on there. Multiple muggings of cyclists and bike thefts recently.
