Hi all,

This weekend I am staying in the Tarn Outdoor centre near Sedbergh CA17 4LN) with my running club. On saturday there is a trail race in Crosby Garrett. Does anyone know a route between the two? I'm bringing my bike as I'm not running but would love to ride there and back.

Thanks in advance for any route or help!

Col

The Bowderdale Loop but rather than turn at Ravenstonedale head over Crosby Garrett Fell.

That'd be a fairly long day, if you just wanted a short ride there and back then park up near Brownber/Sandwath  http://streetmap.co.uk/map.srf?X=370314&Y=505365&A=Y&Z=120 and head over Crosby Garrett Fell  http://streetmap.co.uk/map.srf?X=370846&Y=506510&A=Y&Z=120 and return via Smardale Fell and Bridge http://streetmap.co.uk/map.srf?X=372042&Y=505975&A=Y&Z=120 .

Thanks whitestone. I'm up for just doing it one way, out to Crosby Garrett and can then get a lift back. How long do you think it would take?

Does anyone have a Strava route for this loop? I'm picking up a new Garmin Edge 520 Plus tomorrow and would like to get something fired into that. Otherwise, I'm sure to get lost!

Timewise it depends whether you do Bowderdale or the "return leg" in reverse but allow 3hrs or so.

There's not many BWs in that area so once you are on one you aren't going to get lost. A map might be useful 😉

Thanks again whitestone. I'll probably do the shorter route so I'm guessing that will be a bit less.

Just been looking at the original Bowderdale loop and it doesn't stretch out towards Crosby Garrett. I either do that loop, or try and find that route that was posted above.

That's what I said: Bowderdale Loop as far as Ravenstonedale then head on over CG Fell. There's a few options on CG Fell

You could do one half of the loop as far as the end of Bowderdale, then print out a bit of map for the last couple of miles.

Navigation isn't that challenging around there, you've only got to find the BW out of Brownber.

Cool. I've found a BW out of the area I'm staying that should take me straight to Ravenstonedale, then I can head over to Crosby Garrett.

Just checked where The Tarn Centre actually is, a lot closer to Ravenstonedale than I assumed.

OP: head to this point  http://streetmap.co.uk/map.srf?X=372401&Y=499401&A=Y&Z=120  then take the lane past Sprintgill and take the BW alongside Harter Fell to pick up the minor road leading to Ravenstonedale. The BW south of Murthwaite is much better as a descent.

Evening,

Just a quick update to say the route was largely successful and thanks for the help. I only took 2 short wrong turns! My new Edge 520 actually had most of the BW's on the built-in maps. It wasn't technical at all, just a nice route with great scenery.

Cheers

Col
