I am looking to plan a route from Litton.

I had planned a route which I rode yesterday but it was not without issues/disappointment !

We set off from the Pub at littondale and went over the tops to Horton-in-ribblesdale, this section of the route was perfect and just what we were expecting. The return leg we travelled from the cafe at Horton round the other side of pen-y-Ghent to foxup, this section was terrible ! It was boggy not very technical and best left for dry summer months !!

So can anyone suggest a better return leg from Horton-in-ribblesdale ?

Here is a link to my route on strava Tour of Pen-Y-Ghent

I tend to go up to Halton Gill, over horse head pass and down to yockenthwaite and turn left. Follow track opposite road up through beckermonds and greenfield, over the top and down to Horton..

Beaten to it by Rachel.

Or: Just before Helwith Bridge turn left up Moor Head Lane to Sannet Hall. Unfortunately, it's tarmac for a few miles to Malham Tarn Field Centre. Round tarn to start of Mastiles Lane (Street Gate). Go through gate & turn left, follow track to ford. Swing right & follow trail upwards to meet wall. Follow easy & fast downhill track to Hawkswick Cote & road. Left for Litton.

Or: from Helwith Bridge take main road south to Stainforth. Locate Goat Scar Lane & climb this to Winskill & then track to road. Turn right downhill to Clay Pitts plantation. Turn left & follow BW over
Gorbeck to Malham Tarn. As above from there.

Saw a couple of riders at top of Horton Lane looking at the new 3-Peaks FP about 12:30 yesterday. You?

We were up there looking at the new steps they have put in.
Just before Hull Pot at the crossroads ?

Start off as you did, but 300m before you hit the road at Helwith Bridge, turn left (Moorhead Lane) to Sannat Hall. then get on the road (severe dip!) towards Malham Tarn. Past Capon Hall and keep left at all junctions until gate and abandoned lane that swings round to go thorugh (past) Malham Field Centre and goes to Street gate (the begining of Mastilles). Keep left after street-gate-gate up Arncliffe Cote which is long BW to Arncliffe. Litton is 5 mins up the road from there

Yes the walker with the blue top was me. I'd nipped up Pen-y-Ghent after dropping my wife off for a meeting. Picked her up with 10mins to spare. Nice timimg!

Out of interest, what was the comment? 😀

We wanted to ride up and look at the steps to see if they were rideable but commented that a walker was coming and if it was (it wasn't signed as a FP) a footpath they can be a funny bunch and might take offence. So decided we would leave it until another day.

And before anyone chips in I am a walker too !
