Heading up to Banchory Monday thinking about stoping for a ride on way up Anybody recommend a 3-4 hour route around braemar ,with the snow forecast I suspect it will need to be a low lying route
Cheers
Maddy
There are a lot of interesting trails in the Morrone Birkwood, just to the west of the town. I could happily spend an hour or two exploring around there. It's quite low down as well.
Go through Braemar village heading for Taste coffee shop. Head up the hill past taste and park in the carpark at the top. Continue on bike up the landrover track upto the viewpoint. As you near the viewpoint the track goes right. Follow this, through a gate until the forestry plantation. Turn right on singletrack descending back to the landrover track you came up.
Go back to the viewpoint, then head past it on your left down double then singletrack to a gate at some static caravans. Join the road and go left towards the village. A footbridge on the right leads over to a path that follows the river upstream, first on grass, then a well made path. Follow the path to, then over the A93, onto the path that joins Queen's Drive. The landrover track goes up and over, ending down at an old quarry/council depot. A footpath begins at the gate and follows the line of the deer fence alongside the A93. At the gate opposite Braemar castle, either cycle the road back to the car, or climb the steps back into the woods. A quick downhill takes you into Braemar, then back up to get your car.
