I looking for a decent road based route from Tadcaster to central Leeds and predictably there isn't any cycle route until after you get inside the Leeds ring road.
I'm going to be working in central Leeds occasionally once office based work is a thing again and was thinking of riding it (from York) every now and again. There's a pretty decent segregated cycle route from York To Tadcaster but then nothing. This leaves a 7/8 mile section that I really don't like the look of. Don't mind road riding but will certainly not be entertaining the A64.
Do any locals know of a secret cycle route which isn't marked on Google maps or Komoot?
I live right in the middle of your route so I know the area very well, and which roads will be busy/less busy/nicer for riding. Would this be on a true 'road' bike or are you open to any rougher stuff?
Across from Tad to Bramham on the A659/Toulston Lane, then pick up NCR66 which is a mix of traffic free and quietish road all the way into the centre of Leeds.
Thanks for the replies.
Will be riding a steel tourer with mudguards and rack rather than an out and our road racer (2010 Dawes Galaxy), currently running a pair of 32mm tyres but probably have clearance for 35mm I think. Was thinking of keeping it on tarmac mostly but can handle a bit of the rougher stuff if need be
NCR66 looks good, didn't think to look at Sustrans lol, I'm only a couple of km from the planet section to Selby.
You could go Tadcaster towards Bramham, turn left up Warren Lane which will bring out towards The roundabout over the motorway. Head into Aberford then turn right after the pub onto Cattle Lane then follow this to Scholes and into Leeds. If you want to do something a little bit "gravel" continue into through Aberford past the church on the right. There is then a bridleway on your right in the dip Parlington Lane just follow this. Cross over the road through the golf course which is a bridleway bearing right at the end to again bring you out in Scholes then straight into Leeds. Some of that is probably NCR66. Parlington Lane is usually pretty good as a surface there is a long unlit tunnel halfway which is a bit of a bog after rain.
Towton, over Towton Moor, Aberford, Barwick, Leeds Road to the ring road, then straight down the York Road through Killingbeck (busy but you’re faster than the cars). Don’t end up on the A58M
I do York-Cas these days. Similar route to Lotherton Hall then down the hill to Cas.
