Usually ride natural stuff all over The Peak, Lake District, Wales, Bit of Hebden Bridge and a few other spots. I'd like to add another area to the ride location list and do some new stuff which isn't a million miles away (based in Macclesfield). Was having a look between Staylbridge and Penistone and up to Marsden but mostly seems to be Roadie riding or featureless moor.

Has anyone got any decent loops around there they'd like to share? Looking for 3-5 hours, 40Km+, 1100m elevation minimum, minimal road, don't mind a bit of hike a bike. Basically a route that will scratch the itch, but tick all the boxes you get from riding in The Peak

Cheers
Carlos

There are a fair few trails from Stalybridge up towards Meltham that will leave you towards Holmfirth and loop back via hade edge and then return via the pennine trail to Tintwistle, finishing in a downhill happy ending

@stevedoc - Don't suppose you have any GPX's of loops/routes. It'd be nice to have a decent starter loop and adding to that

Presumably you know and love Alphin pike.

This route is a bit more than 40km but the middle bit is what you want https://strava.app.link/foa7uu6RW8 — hayfield_edale_loop_177

Stalyvegas up the canal or bridleway to Carrbrook, up to Stalybridge Country Park, past the reservoirs (Brushes?) then over the moor up and down to Tintwistle. Cross over the Woodhead Pass, get on the Longdendale trail and ride to the top. Cross over the Woodhead pass again, follow the Snow road. Cross over the Woodhead pass again, heading for Dunsop Bridge, round Winscar res, then drop towards Holme but cut off along Ramsden Road and down to the reservoirs. Through Holme, left to Diglea, get onto Hoowood lane and come out near the top of Wessenden valley. Down Wessenden, left at Butterly res, climb up Mount road, left at the top, over Stanage, left 100 yards down the other side, down Boat lane, canal back to Staylbridge.

It works out about 40 miles and about 4000 ft from Staylvegas.

Alphin is a nice long rocky moorland descent from 469m.It used to be quite a challenge on xc bike but it’s opened right up now and there’s lots of easy lines, there have been loads of cool Steep technical trails built in the area it’s just a case of exploring on strava.
