Anyone have a rough (but realistic) estimate of how long it takes to ride both loops of Penmachno?
Loop 2 wasn't built last time I was there and I'm thinking of trying to squeeze a ride in this weekend, where I'm really pushed for time.
I guess I'm of average trail riding speed...

On your own you'll be faster as there's less waiting.

Some people will say 2.5 hrs but I think if you allow 3.5 hrs it would be more realistic if you consider yourself to be average speed (mind you what is average...)

When we go with a largish group it can take 4-5 with waiting, chatting and a stop to eat a bit etc.

Cheers Dave. That's helpful.
I'd be on my own and no (planned!) stopping.
I don't know what average speed is either tbh, but I'm no xc whippet these days, but neither am I a slouch. 😉

Was there Saturday & we did it in 2:15,it wasn't overly rushed & we had a few camera stops along the way....My Garmin reckons it's just under 18 mile, there's a few decent climbs but they're all on hard pack so ok.The trail is pretty much weather proof as well so you can get a scoot on even when it's been very wet, like last week......

It was in the weatherproofness that the appeal lay, mate!
You doing the Dyfi this year? My bro. is in and I'm heading over to see him at some point.

Two and a half hours at an average pace. Excellent trail.

Thought it was you mate ! Just wear water proof socks as there's a fair bit of standing water on it.
Yeah doing the Dyfi next week, & expecting it to be a lot wetter than last year, but at least I'll be on a 26" wheeled bike with gears 'n' suspension this time...... 🙂

Best of luck fella.
I have first hand knowledge of the delights of standing water on the Dyfi. Expect to be an even shade of grey from head to toe at the end! 😀

Wish I was doing it now, but I haven't got the miles in to make it anything other than a total sufferfest. 😉

...or any gears at the moment.
