I struggle to get my XL aeris clamped nicely on a Thule 591 as the wheelbase is so long. I'm looking at another bike with the same if not longer front triangle.
Even clamping higher up on the downtube, the front wheel is hanging over the front of the rails. It's ok on the aeris, for the new bike, think it'll be on the car roof.
Any recommendations? Can't see how you can move the arm attachment further on the rail if that makes sense. Doesn't look like you can and I dont have any instructions.
Have a scoot around Google for the thule outride 561 fork mounted rack....see if that would fit the bill... 🙂
There are 4 Allen bolts underneath the swing arm bracket on your bike rack, which attach it to rails on the rack itself. Loosen these bolts, and the bracket/swing arm will slide to where you want it.
Don't forget to tighten the bolts back up, afterwards!
just extend the rails with some chanel profile.
Tandems go on the roof of octavias that way 😀
Fadda - thank you I didn't know this and my youtube and google results were of no help
Trail Rat - back up plan, again - thanks
The trouble is that a rack can only be so long before the rear window hits it when you open the boot, which is a very easy way to crack the glass so Thule & co. are limited in how long they can make roof carriers otherwise they'll be getting lawyers letters.
That said, the new 599 can take an XL Mondraker, my mate just got one for his, not many bikes longer than that.
I've got an Aeris L and I had the same struggles as you with the Thule carrier. I ended up going for a Whispbar WB201 which is plenty long enough and does a great job in holding the bike steady. It's been down to Morzine & back and no complaints at all.
The guys at Bird recommended the Yakima ForkLift as it holds the tyres rather than the frame - unfortunately it's too long for our car which is why I went for the Whispbar.
The new Thule 599 takes a 1300mm wheelbase versus the 1200mm or so that the 591 takes, I have one though haven't used it yet.
Roofbox lists the 599 as max wheelbase of 1240 so I'd be interested to know if it fits longer bikes, my new bike is 1270.
The 599 says it has an adapter for the fat rear tyre does the front fit a fat tyre as standard, asking as I have fat front so this could be ideal as I have 29er 3.0plus front on one and a 26x4.3 fatty on the other build but normal 29x2.4 rear
Looks OK according to the photo on their website

Although it's not actually a photo....
I did as Fadda has suggested and can fit a large Geometron on a Thule 591
It does look OK davos but on the video there was a setting twisty thing that appears to have a few options but not showing fat 26 so I wasn't sure if I needed to buy other bits as well or front fit fat from the start and the adapter was solely for a rear tyre.
Oh how many lock barrels Do these have is it one to lock to bars and one for lock or are there more on the bars
Thanks again
