Which is your preference and why?
We've done Rogate but not Wind Hill. I suspect that the lad may prefer Wind Hill, but would Rogate be better for his race practice maybe...
.
Never been to rogate but I'm sure he'd love windhill....
I think you should go check it out and report back. Windhill is a lot further for me so I’d like to know if it is worth a trip please 🙂
Ride regularly at both, also Tidworth. Rogate is a small step up in terms of tech generally but they both have a wide variety of trails for most abilities. If he's happy riding the jumps and drops at Rogate then Windhill will be fine for him too.
I prefer Windhill to Rogate, mainly as it's closer but there's also a better variety of trails. Both are as good as each other though. Tidworth is my favourite but only if it's dry!
The general consensus is that Windhill is a year-round venue, Rogate best in the winter as it drains well and Tidworth is best after a decent dry spell.
Have seen plenty of footage of these online. But I just had a look on Trailforks and can't believe how tiny they are! They certainly pack a lot of features in.
Tidworth over both of them. Rough, rooty and natural with some flowy jumpy bits.
Rogate is my second favourite, probably best for progression.
Windhill I dont really enjoy that much, but it is the biggest site and the runs are longer, as is the pushup. To be honest I don't know why I don't like it as much, it has all the right ingredients. Plus the carpark is a way off the site.
i think both are worth visiting
i would like to say, Windhill has longer runs, while rogate has lots of shorter sections with more challenging features crammed in
It's a toughie as me and the lad want arguably different things. I think Windhill will be more fun for him, but not necessarily as good DH training/practice. Whereas i think looking at it, i'm going to find Windhill mostly impossible.
So yeah as per the previous recommendation, i think we may actually go rogue and try Tidworth.

Only done windhill but I would say it's a lesson in good trail building in a small space. Goes to show you can do a lot with a relatively small hill and space. Lots of the southern UK spots are like this tbh but to the density can work well.

@weeksy you'll find plenty for you to ride at both WH and Tidworth. Similarly to Rogate, they're small venues so you end up sessioning the runs you enjoy. For your lad, WH has the bigger jumps / features whereas Tidworth has the more DH run (Hooper Struve).
They're all worth a visit.. try them all and see which you prefer. I'd avoid Tidworth if it is / has been wet though as the chalk can be lethal!
As above, Windhill has a lot of different stuff, depending on what you're after and they've been building new stuff over the last year or two, with the likes of Payrise now being one of the best lines there.
The reds at WindHill are nice, Pass the Dutchie is a rooty run, which is great for learning to pick the right line, Tina Turner is another DH style tech red, and then there's empuru, big doubles all the way!
Think the competition line used mostly there is Rootiful South, which is a bit like countdown at FoD, although a little harder in places, so always a good one to play on if your lads doing comps in similar runs.
