I'm riding an 07 Slayer with various bits and bobs - forks, crank, brakes - upgraded from the stock model. I wouldn't mind a more modern, ideally lighter frame. Can't really afford a boutique brand, any reason why I shouldn't swap it out for a Trance (or something similar).

I don't really have anything to compare my Rocky to - it's the first FS I've owned - any other ex-Slayer owners here who feel they made the right decision to move on.

Cheers in advance,

BTM

hello, probably not helpful but I have an 07 slayer which I relegated in favour of a bandit this march as I wanted something lighter with less travel. Thinking of rebuilding the slayer up now, just to see what its like again 🙂 I was thinking the slayer may have old school geometry but it has the same seat tube angle and head angle as the bandit.

Cheers for the reply, what do you reckon is a sensible asking price for those Slayer frames? I've got the one with ltd edition Canuck paint job if it makes any difference, RP23 shock.

Best,

Think I'd be wanting around £300 for mine if I were to sell. It has a DHX air shock and I can't recall that it has any dings or scratches. Having said that, I doubt I'll bring myself to sell it, can't part with those maple leaves 😉

Sounds sensible, I'd thought something around that figure myself, but you're making me feel guilty about wanting a change now! Slightly worried I might regret swapping it for swapping it out for one of the big brands!

ha ha, that wasn't the intention 🙂 It sounds like I went through the same thought process as you ie I wanted something lighter and more modern but actually when you check the weights and geometry of today's big brands there isn't much difference. Plus, the RMs are quality frames with the easton tubing. I like to think they were a bit ahead of their time in creating AM/enduro bikes which they called super cross country back then 🙂

Stick with the Slayer till its bust!
Bikes are like cars, some manufacturers are ahead of the game and some classic cars will always be better than a lot of mainstream modern cars, maybe not as much BHP but still manage to go as fast.
My only reasoning too....

Mmh. Maybe I should look for some lighter wheels then.
