Looking for a set of burly 29'er forks to mullet my Gen 1 Kenevo eeb

Are the Ultimates worth spending the extra couple of hundred over the Select?

While we are at it, can anyone recommend a half decent but not ridiculously expensive 29" front wheel for a habitual rim dinger on a 25kg tank?

Select damper is great, got it in my lyriks, not sure the ultimate damper is worth the extra cash for us weekend warriors

On the front wheel I’d get a dt swiss fr560 built onto your hub of choice.

No real point spending a fortune on a front hub as it’s just a tube with bearings - Bitex are usually available for about £50 (what I built for my sentinel front wheel and it’s just been fit and forget - even got torque caps for that cost so it fits nicer with rockshox forks) or you might find a discounted Hope Pro 4 one now the Pro 5 has come out.

Ebike you plum

Hope you're back in the playoffs soon enough. And fail 😘

I've got 27.5 Lyriks on at the moment. Couldn't tell you what damper, but they are decent enough

How much are you looking at spending on the Zeb ultimate?

I got my 2023 190mm model for £615 from one of the German sites and it was worth that money IMO.

I'd struggle to stump up £1k for one though.

I think the Ultimate damper is worth the extra, make sure you get MY23 with the Buttercups though.

EX511 rim on a Hope hub is my go to wheel.

How comes?

Seeing selects for £6xx and Ultimates for £8xx

Low £800s would still sting, but would be worth the extra IMO.

The new damper is really good.

(I haven't used the Select model though, to be fair)

I'm a few rides in on a new Zeb Ultimate and really liking it so far.
Coming off the back of an EXT ERA that's pretty impressive.

Wasn't that impressed with my 2023 ultimates, they are heading back to Sram due to a creaky steerer tube and tight bushings. Have slapped a set of 2022's from my other bike and they feel far smoother.

Might be worth mentioning, I have one of the new 190mm air springs to sell.

But if I were you I'd keep an eye out for a good price on the 190mm stock forks, they come up cheaper as they're the lest popular length I think.

I didn't get on with my 2023 Zeb ultimate and they went back twice under warranty for tight bushings and other issues.

Compared to a pair of 2022 Zeb ultimate's they felt horrible and harsh.

Seems Im not the only one who has had issues with new Rockshox either as there have been issues with the new lyrik too.

You're going from a 180mm 27.5 fork to a 190 29er fork?

Good luck with how it'll handle.

@TheArtistFormerlyKnownAsSTR

air spring and damper need to be better. Secus makes it what is should be on the air spring side of things.

It's not a particularly slack or long bike as it is by modern standards, with sag it's a 7mm difference in the fork, so will be insignificant. The deal breaker is the wheel size and general consensus on the Facebook Kenevo forums is that mulleting is definitely worth it. I get pedal strikes all day long as it is anyway so.....

I know what the geo is like on the gen1 Kenevo as I had one and now have the gen2.
It's something I've considered myself but I'll be going with a 170 if I go that route.
Not sure how you arrive at 7mm difference when it's 10 mm more travel plus the difference in the actual fork length going to 29 then the wheel size difference on top of that.

RS have improved the air spring and damper on the 2023 forks.

You ridden the new Zeb?

They're already well into testing an improved damper, so the charger 3 might be short lived and replaced with 3.1 soon. Despite the buttercups small chattery stuff isn't as smoothed out as it could be,

It's definitely more firm than the original Zeb on trail chatter, but I only really notice it on cobbles and it's well worth the hugely improved support further into the travel.

Dunno if this is true, but I was told Jack Moir was riding the Charger 3 damper with the old air spring, and my mate was sent a warranty fork with the same set-up - and reckons it's really good.

Personally I'm quite happy with the full 2023 Zeb, though I suspect the Buttercups have negligible effect.

I probably didn't explain myself very well.

I want it slightly longer and slacker, which will obviously be achieved with the 29'er set up. An extra 10mm on the travel isn't going to make much of a difference, especially when sagged. Then there's offset to take into account too. The Gen2 is longer and slacker already, so needs different consideration.

I'll probably get my trigonometry pencil out at some point and look at the numbers properly

27.5 Lyrik at 180 has an a to c of 572*
29 Zeb at 190 has an a to c of 606
There's 34mm to start with before you even take into account for the extra 20mm for the wheel size.
54mm is a huge amount to lift the front.
Are you measuring one sagged and one un sagged?

* Think that's what was on my gen 1

Even with 170 zeb it'll be slacker and longer.
The 44mm offset from the 29er fork will also make the wheelbase longer.

Are the Ultimates worth spending the extra couple of hundred over the Select?

If you can be bothered to play with the settings IMHO...
I changed one over for a mate (off his old Merida to his new YT Decoy) and he could feel the difference riding down my front street (well kerbs)

Its £320 or so RRP to upgrade seperately so £200 well worth it from that perspective HOWEVER
1) I paid £420 for my Zeb 2.1 ultimates .. (charger II) they were £10? less than Lyriks.. so the question might be more if the Charger 3 is worth it over 2.1

2) Your on a EEB so if weight doesn't matter you can buy a Domain and put the RC2 damper in and you have a Zeb Ultimate +300g

3) I have smashpot coils in my Zeb Ult (Bird), Domain (Vitus EEB) and Lyrik (HT) so the air spring is immaterial and it also makes the Domain smaller ID and different airshaft identical to the Zeb with coil...

VFM .. weight not an issue the Domain + RC2 + coil is hard to beat. (IMHO)

I've read a few reviews that seem to reflect some comments on here about small bump compliance.

Also that the fork prefers to be ridden hard and suits heavier riders - maybe more suited to an ebike, but....

Fox 38's seem to come out on top in every side by side, so thinking of going down that route now - who uses 38's? Opinions?

FWIW, as I've ridden the new Zeb more I feel it's "broken in" and the initial harshness in the small bump has reduced.

I also think I've started to notice the damping effect of the Buttercups. It's an excellent fork.

Been running two Zeb Ultimates for a while now and absolutely love them.
One is on an eeber and the other a Geometron both at 170 length.
No harshness from either of them or the same fork that MMrssstu has on her eeber.
Just really well damped and easy to set up.
Only downer is one of them has had to go back with a creaky CSU but almost every fork I've had has developed the same problem after a while.

Just pulled the trigger on a set of Fox Factory 38's 180mm, a used Fortus 30 29'er front wheel from fleabay, one up 210mm dropper and some orange Hope bling. Will post pics when fitted - hope it all works (the mullet), will be an expensive experiment if not....
