Has anyone ridden a MY23 RockShox Lyrik or Zeb with the Rush RC damper?
I'm currently looking at a Zeb 'Base' MY23. Zeb reviews are almost exclusively the posh Ultimate version (with the occasional Select model review). I've found nothing about the Zeb 'Base' model with the Rush RC damper:
https://www.sram.com/en/rockshox/models/fs-zeb-bse-a2
and service manuals here that contain some info:
From what I can tell, the Base Zeb has:
- DebonAir+ spring but without Buttercups
- lowers which can accomodate the pressure release valves but doesn't have them as standard
- the Rush RC damper which differs from the Charger RC in the Select model and the Charger 3 RC2 in the Ultimate
I'm not a riding god or racing world cups or enduros or the like, but equality I'm sensitive enough to notice the difference between a Yari with MoCo damper (IMO crap) and the same fork upgraded with a Charger 2.1 RCT3 damper. I don't want to make a mistake of buying then regretting an 'inferior' product if it's indeed a pile of poop.
Can anyone chip in on this one?
The only thing I can add is that I think that pressure release valves are a complete waste of time. Tried them before and after a 2K change in altitude on my Fox 36s and they did FA.
if its a cheap fork/damper you can buy a novyparts splug damper (assuming it fits) it will make all the difference.
or work out the price difference to the next damper level up and see what works out cheaper.
No experience myself, but Pinkbike reviewed the Devinci Chainsaw the other day and said that Zeb worked well.

And that reviewer is one of the best around IMO.
Sounds promising - and I'd already looked at the upgrade options via RS Trailhead - but non-starter after checking the steerer length of the one I'd found for sale. Too short for me.
Annoyingly vague about lower spec stuff, yet the ultimate always gets put under the microscope with in depth articles and cut away sections so you can see how the internals work, just like the new Boxxers, lower spec one barely gets a mention, it's all about the top end.

Totally agree.
You'd think one of the good MTB media outlets would do a series of brand-specific rundowns through the ranges of forks and shocks - covering how the damping, chassis and features improve at each level.
I've got a Fox DPS Performance on one of my bikes. It's OK but I have no idea if the damping is inferior to the Factory model, or if the only difference is the Kashima gold.

That's a fantastic idea, do we know any magazines that could do that?

There's fairly decent diagrams showing the breakdown of each fork varient in RockShox's service manual in the link in my first post. I won't pretend they help me in understanding how the internals work though!
Can't blame manufacturers for sending out the highest-end stuff for testing. Similar to car media where it's always the posh/loaded up with extras models on press fleets, not the base models.
