'Sup forum, are Rockshox Sektor any good as a set of budget forks for my little bugger about/commuting bike. The reviews on CRC are conflicting! Cheers!

Mine have been good for a couple of years. I've got rev. internals in mine but they're tried and tested forks: rev chassis with the older style motion control (assuming it's an RL or Gold RL).

Yeah I like mine. Pretty basic but they do the job. I had to go up a spring weight though, at 74kg the regular one felt a bit divey, firm feels about right. They're a bit short for my Voltage but still feel good.

There's a bunch of different versions, the worst ones have very basic dampers and in all honesty aren't very good (R version), though still good value. The best are IIRC basically equivalent to a slightly older Revelation or Pike 426, so really pretty decent.

They're also upgradable- obviously not the brightest idea to buy a new fork with the plan to upgrade, but if you don't get on with them you can drop in Revelation dampers etc in most cases if not all.

(I'm in the middle of building a Sektorevelation out of a set of Revelation Teams and the cheapest crappest coil Sektors)

Sektors fan here too, as others have said they're a Revelation body with cheaper/older internals....but that does mean they can be sent away to TF, Mojo etc and upgraded easily and cheaply.

I like the coil stuff personally, for my second bike it means they're pretty much zero maintenance and you just swap out firmer or softer springs if your weight doesnt match what the fork came with.

Yeah, I'm pretty curious to see how these work as coil- ironic really that I've just recently converted the big bike that's always been coil, to air, after swallowing the Pike hype, now my weightweenie ti hardtail is going coil...

Any more info on the conversion from sektors to sektorevelations? and who would I be looking at to do it if it's not a home job, cheers!

I used to be coil all the way but I find air is easier than faffing around finding/buying/fitting/moaning springs. I'm sure air springs are a lot more coil like these days!

I had some 2012 sektor rl solo airs. I prefer them to my current 2014 fox 32 performance ctd. Awesome forks.

I've got some 2013 Sektor TKs and can't justify replacing them. Not the stiffest but pretty happy with them

TBH if you can service a fork, that's really all you need- they're (more or less) the same inside so it's just a case of choosing the bits you want and putting them together. So mine will be something like this:

Revelation lowers and dampers
Sektor uppers (because my Revs have a really short steerer) and coil spring (just to see)

Just like building lego
