Hi,
I have a Rockshox Reverb Stealth that no longer supports any weight - it pushes right down to the bottom with any weight whatsoever. At the same time, the stealth hose pushes out of the frame (and pulls back in if I manually extend the seatpost).
To add to this, it's stuck in the frame (aluminium).
I'm guessing the seatpost has blown a seal as it's not offering any resistance whatsoever, rather than just needing a bleed (was also fine earlier in the ride) - I assume I have no choice but to remove it from the frame.
Can anyone offer any advice on how to remove a Reverb from the frame? Preferably without damaging the seatpost but I'll sacrifice it if necessary. Any suggestions for next steps? LBS?
Cheers
The C clip that holds the internals in the main tube has rusted and disintegrated, fairly easy fix if you can get it out.
Circlip failure would be the most common cause, sometimes the circlip groove is damaged.
If the internals have hit the frame when it has slid down they may be damaged (straight seat tubes are often ok, kinked seat tubes often damage the hose/bend the shaft depending on the insertion depth)
You cant twist the saddle too hard as the force is transferred through the 3 keys/keyways.
You can use a split clamp on the seat post, or if fully inserted you can make one to fit the cap or remove the cap and make one to fit the threaded section. The top of the cap is weak (thin wall for the foam ring then seal, and will just shear off if you try pulling it using that groove)
Thanks guys, the seatpost is fully inserted so I would be best using a clamp on the seatpost cap (the one that sits just above the frame's seatpost clamp?). Good to know not to twist the saddle.
Should I then be twisting a little whilst pulling up on this clamp with the bike on the ground and a foot on a pedal to stabilise it?
Cheers
