I think my forks are ready for an oil change. I have some 7.5wt fork oil from when i did some other forks, but i think RS say 15wt.

As I understand it the oil is only for lubricant - can i get away with using 7.5wt?

You can but it won't do the job as well as the 15wt specced as it's thinner and therefore less 'sticky' meaning it's less likely to say on the upper bushes/legs, which may possibly lead to accelerated wear on the forks. HTH 😀

Recon coils were always 15wt in the lowers and 5wt in the damper IIRC. As loco says, it will not be as effective if you use thinner oil, but in the short term I doubt it would be a huge problem.

Of greater concern is the ludicrously small amount (5ml) of 15wt that is supposed to go in the lowers of my rebas. I basically ensured there was more than that by totally soaking the foam rings and adding 7.5ml to each leg instead. I've not noticed any issues and it should last longer(!)
