There's a wee problem with my wife's RockShox Reba Solo Air 100mm forks. On a few occasions on a long descent the forks have not returned to being fully extended. They get stuck about half way through their travel. Lifting the front wheel off the ground is sufficient to allow the forks to rebound to their full extension and behave normally again. To get the right amount of sag there's only around 70psi in the shock.
I've never seen this on any other forks I've owned. Does it just need a strip down and oil change, or is this indicative of a specific problem?
Reba's (and other RS forks) did have issues for a while with damaged air shafts a couple of years back.
I had it on mine. A scratch on the air shafts was allowing air to leak between positive and negative springs and they would stick down.
Your symptoms are slightly different but it could be worth checking if stripping them down.
I've had a similar issue with these forks getting an airlock and losing about 20mm of extension. Maybe try the fix for that and see:
Turn the bike upside down, unscrew the allen key bolt on the bottom of the air leg, and inside you will find another, hidden, schraeder valve. Poking the valve with a small allen key or screwdriver would release the airlock and fire the forks back up to full travel.
Was just about to reply but Colin9 beat me to it 🙂
Thanks, will take a look at those suggestions
