Hi, looking for some help with my forks...
Yesterday I got on the bike to go for a ride and noticed the forks compressed much more than normal. I quickly got the shock pump out and they were only at 50 psi, normally I rum them at 80 psi, so a quick top up and off I went.
By the end of the 15 mile ride they felt soft again and I could bottom them out if I put all my weight on them, and another check at home showed they had again dropped to 50 psi.
I tightened up the schrader valve and put them back up to 80 psi, and they have held pressure overnight, but now they feel much too firm.
I've never had a problem with the forks before, I bought them around a year ago (2nd hand) when I built the bike, and gave them a lower leg service before putting them on. Since then they haven't needed any adjustment.
I started researching and came accross pos and neg chambers, but I'm pretty sure these only have 1 schrader valve on them at the top (just hex bolt at the bottom) and therefore are the solo air type.
I'm hoping this is common/obvious to someone on here who can highlight what's gone wrong!
Ben
Could be the fork valve is slowly leaking air, easy to change.
Probably air leak from the air spring into the lowers. Slide a cable tie past the wiper seals to see if there is air in the lowers. If there is, then do an air spring service.
Thanks
FYI there was air trapped beneath the wiper seals, thanks for the advice.
Sorted!. Well you will be once you sort the air-spring. It's only really a few minutes work once you have the lowers off anyway. Seals are cheap. You already have the suspension grease. Circlip pliers are the only specialist tool you need if you haven't got them already.
