Afternoon all,

after ignoring a leaking moco damper on my pike 426's for the last few rides i've finally taken them off ready to be stripped down by myself for the first time (last service done by TF). I'm hoping its just an o'ring and being an aircraft mechanic i reckon i can source an acceptable replacement o'ring from work - £18 for a seal kit from TF is a touch steep for me!
Whilst it's stripped i may as well do the oil, i have a trade card for halfords so can get oils cheap from there, just wondering what i need to be buying if anyone can help me out? Its a 426 u turn dual air if it makes a difference.

Cheers in advance,
Steve

You need 5wt fork oil for the damper (120cc or so per change) and a few ml of 15wt in the bottom of the leg and inside the air cartridge (If air fork!) for lubrication

To be fair, normal car engine oil or a bit of the 5wt fork oil will do for lubricating but buy your damping oil from a motorbike shop (usually about £8 a litre) becasue you won't get it cheaper than that!

I use Silkolene

You really want a motorcycle shop, for the damping oil, as I don't believe Halford stock damping oil (well maybe overpriced stuff in the bike section).
Silkoline would be my first choice but any decent branded oil should be fine.

Lots of info:

It's confusing all this fork stuff!

So I need

Fox

10wt fork oil
80wt gearbox oil

Rockshox

15wt fork oil
5wt oil for lube

And I've list an hour reading about Torco being the same as Rockshox oil...

I bought Silkolene 15wt and SVI 5wt, both cheap as chips. There is a website somewhere where some oil geek has worked out what fork manufacturer's own oils are sourced from, no reason for them to cost what they charge.

5wt oil for lube

No. 5wt for the damper, heavier stuff fo the lube. That said, I use Fox Float fluid (Which is i'm assuming the 80w gearbox oil you're on about?) for lube on my RS and it's perfect.

The motorcycle shop I went into was well accustomed to selling motorcycle fork oil to mountain bikers...
