Not used the air versions, but I have the coil and they are very very good. I would go coil on the front as the weight difference is minimal compared to rear, but the performance difference is leagues ahead. The only issue is that after a while you will probably want to swap out the rear shock for a CCDB or such. 😀

The air lyrik's actually surprisingly good, and quite coil-ish. I was a wee bit disappointed when I coiled mine, I was expecting a massive improvement based on the internet chat and though it's better, it's not miles better. Not that I regret making the change at the end fo the day.

They don't make the 170mm RC2DH coil anymore, just the 160mm u-turn with the non-dh damper.

If you get the u-turn remove the floodgate and roughly double the amount of compression clicks your using for a better performing fork.

2013 no coil Lyriks at all, dual position air and solo air only

LoCo... Is the coil Lyrik a hard sell then? Really surprised by that decision but they'll have good reasons I'm sure

Shields... Not too sure what year they are, I've compared them with 2011 coils-from-new and they were very similiar though so I don't think there's anything up with them... Just think the air spring was better than I gave it credit at the time.

Well, until it blew up anyway. DAMN YOU 2-STEP!

Shame about the u-turn as DPA is meant to blow through it's travel far to easily. The OP should buy a Marz 55 RC3 Ti in that case.

Northwind, no don't think so, they can be retro fitted but it's non reversible, just a choice by rockshox to go air, Fox only do the Vanilla coils in 180mm now too from memory

At a guess it's probably because all the OEM forks purchased are of the air variety as the bike manufacturers are more concerned about paper specs such as weight than actual performance or reliability. Note, very few companies spec their bikes with a 'heavy' set of 55 RC3's.

I'm going to go on a shopping spree for Lyrik coil parts so I don't have to go air for the next decade. Not downgrading, figure the Lyrik U-turn chassis with the Avalanche damper is just about the most perfect and most adjustable setup you can have.

bwaarp, true 'paper' weight will be an issue, I would guess Rs and fox will offer better deals on O.E forks too being bigger organisations

Yeah, Rock Shox will probably make 95 percent of their money from large bulk purchases. I bet they make sod all from single crown coil forks.

Makes sense that. If I was a brand manager I'd probably choose an air lyrik or a float tbh.
