Hi

Any opinions on RockShox Judy compared to Reba?

Yesterday someone was recommending two similar bikes and it is 300 GBP difference between the two.

It is for a 29" XC style hard tail.

Also, wheels are "Avanforce Comp 25 Boost XD". Any views vs Crossmax etc?

Cheers

I've not tried the new Judy, but a lot of second hand ones I saw were all replaced by Rebas and SIDs 🙂

I have the Judy Gold on my 2018 Chisel, I must say i was initially dubious about the fork as ive always previously had Reba and Fox 32’s on previous 29er Hardtails.

Ibe ridden about 500km on the fork and it works pretty well, its definately not as stiff as the Reba was but in terms of smoothness its about the same.

The downsides of the fork as i see it are weight, it comes in at just under 2kg and you’ll save about 400g with the Reba, and the compression adjustment is very much either on or off, i cant feel any notable difference between the ten or so clicks on the fork crown adjuster.

If you are going to be riding light XC / Fireroads the Judy will be fine, but if you are going to push the terrain especially high speed downhill sections of trail i would go for the stiffer Reba, its worth the extra long term.

Had a 100 mm Reba on my 29" XC hardtail.

All these fantastic reviews ... but hated the fork.

Bike the hardtail now with a 130 mm Fox 34 Float Rhythm. Love it!

Reba: not enough progression. Couldn't bike the fork with sag. Only with "too high pressure" I wasn't running all the time into the end caps.

Now with 30 mm more travel and Fox fork: like day and night.

Andreas did you run the Reba's with bottomless tokens and if so did they help?

But comparing 100mm Rebas to 130mm Fox 34s is a bit "apples and oranges". Different forks for different jobs.

I wouldn't want to put a 130mm fork on an XC bike as it'll most likely lose too much in favour of a bit more confidence downhill.

My Fox 32SC feels better than the Reba on my hardtail, but the Fox is brand new, whereas the Reba was a second hand eBay bargain.

bottomless tokens

@dukeduvet: no. Didn't try that. You are right - would have been an easy thing to try.

On the other hand: had the feeling that the fork didn't match at all. I use this hardtail on quite easy but very fast trails and nearly went over the bar a couple time with the Reba.

Now with 130 mm travel instead of 100 mm: it's strange - but the Fox added lots of additional margin. Since I use the Fox I never crashed into the end caps and still are able to bike with 25 percent sag. Now it's a perfect match.
