I have just purchased a new set of Lyriks and wanted to check the lowers and foam seals are correctly lubed. So I am intending to buy a Litre of Maxima Plush light for the job and further servicing. My other bike runs 2021 pikes so am I able to use this on them as well or do I need to stick with the Rockshox 0-30w? I believe the Maxima stuff is also 0-30w but maybe incorrect.

There are better options. Possibly the best is Supergliss but getting hold of it post Brexit is silly. Fox 20 wt gold is really close. Can be used in either of your forks.

For lower lube oil, the weight isn't important. You just want something really slippery.

The Maxima oils seem to be like unicorn pee.

I gave up trying to get some for a lower service on some new SID forks and used some RockShox 0-30W I had in the garage.

It’s worth checking the forks, mine had no noticeable oil in the lowers and bone dry foam rings.

It's the same stuff. Maxima has made RS oils for a few years. This year the 0-30W is rebranded to light, a new 50w ish oil is heavy, but tbh I think its too heavy for winter UK use. Ive been putting Maxima 0-30W in the air spring for years and wont change now. Crack on with your Maxima light oil.

I'm hardly an expert, but I don't imagine RS have done anything radically different with their new forks that demands only a specific new oil for the lowers.

Isn't it a bit like when you buy a washing machine and it says "we recommend using Ariel" or whatever?

I used a Motorex oil when I did the lowers on my MY23 Zeb. Hasn't exploded yet, but I'm willing to listen to any experts who can explain why it might.

🙂

I managed to get hold of the Maxima light sometime last year, only because I couldn't find any of the 0-30w RS stuff at that time. I can't tell any difference.

Oil sold for motorbike forks seems to be much cheaper and I can't find a reason why you should'nt use it

According to SRAM Maxima light is a direct replacement for the old "Pike Oil" 0W30
In reality (and as Ben said) it's been the same stuff for years...

For lower lube oil, the weight isn’t important. You just want something really slippery.

Unless you have an open bath damper or one not so well sealed...
I just stuck a coil in the Domain's last night and stuck 90ml of Fox Gold in the "air" side and 10ml of mixed Gold and 0W30 in the damper side... having soaked the rings in 0w30 as it takes faster.
