I know this has been done before, but i thought i'd see if more STWers could add their experiences....
I'm swapping out the 2-step as it keeps playing up. I want to drop a U-turn/coil unti in there.
The fork is attached to my DB Alpine and is currently running at a relatively high pressure (+20psi for my weight, 72kg). I put alot of my weight over the fork on the downs.
The RS bunf says that I'm between springs, but my friend has a Lyrik with (I think, but not 100% sure) a Standard spring (72-82kg), but i find it uses up the travel too easily.
I'm not too worried about sensitivity over small bumps; my 2-steps are not very responsive to small inputs, but are ready to take bigger hits.
Would I be stupid to put a Blue spring (82-91kg) in there?
Cheers
J
I think it would be a bad idea. I'm about 90kg butt-naked and I use the Blue/Firm spring in my Lyriks. Works very well for me, so at 20kg lighter I would have thought it would be the wrong spring for you.
If you can get yourself over to the French Alps, you're welcome to try mine with both the standard and firm springs and see what you like! (In fact, try to find anyone who uses a firm spring and get a shot on their bike - chances are they'll also have the standard spring lying around and it's a 5-min job to change them - just allen keys and a big spanner required, no oil change or anything).
Cheers Steve.
I'll get the Red/normal spring put in and - if it really is a trouble free job - stick another coil in there if i feel the need.
Thanks for the offer, but I'm a long way from you.
Alpin, I've just bought a light spring for mine, so I've got the red spring available as soon as it arrives. I could only find the springs for just over £50 in the UK and bought my light spring via ebay in the US for £35, but couldn't find any other springs that way.
If you're interested, it's been used for 100-200 miles total, I bought them then put my 888s back on after realising I needed a lighter spring.
Cheers
I'm 100kg and I've got a firm (Blue) spring in my Lyriks. Much better than the normal (Red) one that they came with and I don't find I blow through all the travel as I'm not much of an air-monkey!
My feelings are that if you're in between sizes, go for the lighter weight spring and you'll probably be fine or you can put a little more compression damping on.
alpin you are a standard spring in my books. Use the compression dials to dial in firmness etc.
okeeedokee....
cheers guys.
Paulrocklife, i'm in germany, but thanks for the offer. i've seen plenty of springs being sold on the classifieds over here. i've got to get the 2-step swapped out for u-turn first.
cheers....
Im about to do the same thing on my two steps, im after a standard spring so drop me an email if anyone has one.....sorry for the hyjack
Simon, did you buy your 2steps new? My 2steps failed under warranty and Fisher replaced them with a brand new set of 2010 Lyrik coils.
Yeah bought new but imported myself from the USA, so no warranty mind you they were only £300 shipped
