All the forks I've ever owned have come with nice machined and anodised small parts, but the Recons on my Whyte 629 are crappy plastic.
Possible to get nicer replacements? A cursory eBay search didn't turn anything up.
Well, in theory, you can get replacements for all of the RockShox ones. Will depend on your spring (solo air?) and damper (motion control?) if the ones from another fork will fit. Not cheap though!

Yeah, they are pricey for what is basically a aesthetic improvement! I don't need the whole assembly, just the valve cover/lockout knob. I assumed, (maybe wrongly) that given the fashion for colour co-ordination someone would make aftermarket replacements.
Two of my mates bought Specialized Fuse with these forks. Both have gone back for warranty work within a couple of months... Not sure I'd bother throwing money at them.

Oh do please elaborate, because I cleaned it tonight and it looks like the stanchion fast black anodising is wearing off already.
And the rear WTB rim is showing some crazing around the spoke holes. 😡
First guy said the lockout failed. Took the bike back and they rebuilt the fork.
Second guy has got his back in the shop today. Lockout failed and full travel isn't being achieved. Suspects the seals are Fubar. Fork is being rebuilt.
Both bought on the same day less than six months ago.
The recons are fairly budget forks - but there are a lot of variants of them. From basic steel stanchions with tk damping to alu ones with either gold or fast black stanchions and motion control.
I’ve just ordered some for a budget build I’m doing for my nephew - recon gold rl boost I think they are. I can check the caps that come on those when they arrive.
If you’ve got fast black stanchions I’d think that was an alloy one with decent stanchions and moco already. I’m not sure if many of the other forks have compatible parts - as the recon seems to use an airshaft with all mountain spacers and most models don’t seem compatible with the screw in bottomless tokens - so would assume they have a different top cap. On the Sram site the only ones that can use 32mm bottomless tokens is the 2021 recon debonair. If you have that one perhaps it’ll be compatible with stuff from the sektor / reba - or the older 32mm revelation.
Might be trial and error and quite an expensive exercise just for a small aesthetic improvement.
Thanks reeksy and joebristol. Useful info.
