I'm looking at a XC style bike to do lightweight backpacking on, lighter the better to make up for lack of fitness and all the gear I'll be carrying. The Rockrider XC900 looks like it will do nicely if it's not too much of a bone shaker and you can get wider (2.6?) wheels on it. First glance makes it looks like a deal, anyone got any experience of it? Cheers, D
Tyres, not wheels.
I bought one for £1500 and sold it for £300 just over a year later.
But I do like a quick sale.
They come in two types 27.5 and 29er. I had the 27.5.
I did rob the forks and running gear for other bikes I had.
It is very old school in geometry, but perky.
Those Crossmax wheels are not really crossmax standard, they are 2 pawl ITS-2 non tubeless rim. (Cheap)
You really should go to a Decathlon store and try one. I think they fit daft bald Hutchinson Skeleton tyres on and I am not sure you would get much larger than a 2.2 in the back.
Also check the rear wheel alignment. I tested a 29er version in Surrey Quays and the wheel had no room on one seatstay and a good finger on the other. The wheel was correctly bolted in.
Cheers Wally, I took it for granted that there would be snags as it is so cheap. I think they've improved the geometry on 2020 (Now HT 68.1, ST 71.6), still a bit trad but in line for an xc bike, what year was yours? How did they follow up with problems?
